For the first time in WT history, the Middle School Science Bowl team won the 2017 Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Science Bowl, defeating rival Marshall Middle School in several hard-fought matches at the Regional Science Bowl Finals. Along with the Regional Champions title, the Middle School Science Bowl team earned a $1,500 prize for WT's Middle School science classrooms, and an all-expenses paid trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. from April 27 - May 1. As the only team representing Pennsylvania, they will answer questions and participate in a design skills competition with 48 other teams at the national competition.

After an impressive performance at the Middle School Science Bowl on Saturday, March 4 where teams answered questions about Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Math, Energy, and Physical Science, WT was one of eight teams to qualify for the Regional Science Bowl Finals.

At the Finals, WT easily won their first match. However, the team narrowly lost the second match to North Allegheny's Marshall Middle School, WT's long-time Science Bowl rival and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Champion for the last three years. WT had a chance to redeem their loss in a second match-up against Marshall, and they prevailed over Marshall in tie-breaker questions. In the final match, WT pulled ahead early and decisively defeated Marshall to win the competition.

We're so proud of our 2017 Regional Science Bowl Champions, CB Roman (Captain), Jacob Bair, Will Caballero, and Joe Molder, and their coach, eighth grade science teacher, Peter Frischmann.

Congratulations to all!
