The family of a bricklayer who died from the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma has been awarded £122,500 in compensation from two of his former employers.

Frederick Dodson died at the age 84 as a result of the industrial disease mesothelioma in 2013, which he was diagnosed with just 2 years previously. Mr Dodson had been exposed to asbestos while working for Hawksley Construction of Hucclecote, Gloucestershire. Properties were built by the company with pre-constructed asbestos walls and asbestos rope was used around the chimneys. He was further exposed to asbestos when he went to work for Wilcon Construction, and he was not given protective clothing or masks by either of the companies.

One of Mr Dodson's children, Melvyn, was glad at the success of the compensation claim, but said that no money would be "adequate compensation" for the loss of his father. He added that his father would have been happy at the outcome of the claim because he wanted to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos.
