CHARLESTN – William C. Duty, was recently admitted to the practice of the law in the State of West Virginia and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. Will is an assistant public defender in the office of the Public Defender Corporation for the 30th Judicial Circuit.
Prior to be admitted to the bar, Will worked as a summer intern and clerk for the office. Will is the son of William H. Duty and Bridgette Lee Dixon and the grandson of William (Bill) D. and Wenda Duty.
“Will has become an invaluable member of our staff.” said Teresa McCune, Chief Public Defender. “We are very happy to have him on board.”
McCune moved Duty’s admission before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and Ryan Donovan, Duty’s former schoolmate, introduced him to the Federal Court. Donovan told Federal Judge Goodwin, “Will was a senior quarterback. As quarterback, he was mostly a pocket passer. As a lawyer, however, I think he’ll be a real triple threat. He is intelligent, empathetic, and extremely hard working. As a quarterback, Will was a great leader, and I think he’ll be a great leader among the bar for many years to come. I also say, as a Native Southern West Virginian it makes me very proud and happy when someone who grew up in that community decides to bring his talents home and apply them in that community as well.”
