SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival has partnered with Klean Kanteen, a leader in providing sustainable solutions to single-use plastic, in an effort to raise awareness and support plastic free film festivals.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour hosted by The Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment in Oakland, CA

“Klean Kanteen’s stainless steel pint cups are a simple solution that raises the bar from recycling to actually eliminating unnecessary waste,” says Jenna Brager, On Tour Manager at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. “Our recent partnership with Klean Kanteen helps us live our environmental ethic.”

Wild & Scenic On Tour host partners can participate in Klean Kanteen’s pint cup program by making co-branded Steel Pints available for purchase as general merchandise, incentivizing reusables over disposables by offering refills in Steel Pints at prices below those of beverages served in plastic, or removing the option of using single-use pint cups by requiring all alcoholic beverages to be consumed from Steel Pints. This last option commonly includes the Steel Pint into the cost of admission and can be expanded to replace every beverage served in cups or bottles at the event.

“We recently hosted our 5th Wild & Scenic On Tour, a two-night film fest with 300 attendees each evening.  We wanted to be green & clean and decided to try a ’Can the Cup Campaign,’” says Gary Bednorz, Event Organizer at Ventura Hillsides Conservancy. “Folks were told we would not have any plastic cups for the draft beer - they could ‘buy or bring’ a reusable mug.  Partnering with Klean Kanteen, we sold dozens of stainless steel pint cups resulting in a zero-waste event. Amazingly, every person thanked us and said we should have done this before!! Live the 3R’s: Reduce, Rethink, Reuse!!”

By providing reusable options solutions for festival attendees, staff and volunteers, participating Wild & Scenic On Tour partners have the opportunity to displace more than 300 single-use plastic cups at each event.  Audiences walk away with a great product that lasts a lifetime and the joy of attending a plastic-free event. SYRCL’S Wild & Scenic Film Festival hopes this partnership with Klean Kanteen inspires more On Tour partners to engage in the Steel Pint Program.
