For officially registered marriage, the certificate is issued to the parties who have officially registered their marriage before the Sub-Registrar. A marriage certificate is an official statement that two people are married.
==Eligibility==
*Bridegroom should be 21 years of age.
*Bride should be 18 years of age.
==Instructions==

e.g. The state office holds birth records since january 1908.
==Required Information==
*Name and Address of bridegroom and bride
*Signature of bride and bridegroom
*Signature of 3 attesting witnesses present at the time of marriage along with their name and address
==Procedure==
#Go to a Sub-registrar to register your marriage. For getting a marriage certificate, the respective parties have to apply in a white paper by affixing a Court Fee Stamp of Re.1. There is no specific format for the application form, and they can apply for the same during the office hours.
#Both parties should submit the required documents (stated below).
#After verification of the contents of the application and records, a marriage certificate will be issued.

*In case of normal Muslim Marriages, the Khazi of the island is the responsible authority to issue the certificate. For getting such a certificate, there is no application fee and no specific format of the application.
*A marriage under the Special Marriage Act can be registered in the office of the Marriage Officer in whose jurisdiction the bride or bridegroom resides.
==Required Documents==
*Documentary evidence of date of birth of parties (Matriculation Certificate / Passport / Birth Certificate) Minimum age of both parties is 21 years at the time of registration under the Special Marriage Act.
*Residence Proof: (Voter I. D. card, Driving License, Matriculation Certificate, Passport) (one of these).
*Two Witness With Voter I.D. card, Driving License, Passport,3 Passport size photo (one of these)
*Affidavit by both the parties stating place and date of marriage, date of birth, marital status at the time of marriage and nationality.
*7- passport size photographs of both the parties and one marriage photograph.
*If marriage was solemnized in a religious place, a certificate from the priest is required who solemnized the marriage. Marriage invitation card /Arya Samaj marriage Certificate, if available
*Divorce decree/order in case of a divorcee and death certificate of spouse in case of widow / widower. In case one of the parties belong to other than Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh religions, a conversion certificate from the priest who solemnized the marriage. if available.
