The focus of the course is enhancing your knowledge of specific local and overseas tourist destinations. On completion of the unit standards you should be able to describe and analyse the economic significance of tourism on an international and national scale. Studies of specific tourist destinations will enable you to describe the characteristics of specific tourist destinations, prepare an itinerary for a visit to a destination by a tourist group and be able to promote the destination to a specified audience. The New Zealand destination that is studied is selected from Rotorua or the Queenstown and Wanaka region.

For the Pacific Island countries and Australia you will be required to identify the geographical location and key cities of Australia and the Pacific Island countries on maps. You will also be able to provide travel information, identify and describe attractions, activities and events, products and related services, air travel and travel products which can be pre-purchased in New Zealand.
