Former ECHL broadcasters working in the National Hockey League include John Ahlers and Steve Carroll of the Anaheim Ducks, Tom Callahan of the Nashville Predators, Dave Goucher of the Boston Bruins, Chris Kerber of the St. Louis Blues, Dave Mishkin of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Rob Simpson, who is a producer/host for The NHL Network.

"We are extremely proud today that John has been selected as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010," said Vikings Owner and Chairman Zygi Wilf. "As an undrafted rookie free agent, John's hard work and perseverance paid off as he became one of the greatest defensive linemen to play the game. We look forward to having John enshrined in Canton, and we are grateful for his part in Minnesota Vikings history."

One player who will certainly catch everyone's eye is 6'8" quarterback Brock Osweiler, a junior from Kalispell, MT. Osweiler originally committed to Gonzaga on a basketball scholarship before deciding to focus on football. This will be the 15th start of Osweiler's career and he has a 7-7 record thus far. He has thrown for 3,641 yards this season and would move into 1st place on the school's all-time single-season yardage list with 237 yards against the Broncos. There is virtually no experience behind Osweiler as freshmen Mike Bercovici and Taylor Kelly, a redshirt from Eagle, ID, have barely played this season.

Readers were impressed with the on-field rushing of Indianapolis Colt running back Marshall Faulk (Babying Himself, July 24) and wished him well,But many were concerned that Faulk is also rushing to spend the $17 million he will earn in his seven-year contract. "I can imagine how difficult it is for someone coming from such a tough background to adjust to the lifestyle of an NFL star, but Faulk needs to slow down a bit," advised 17-year-old Ryan Wing of Provo, Utah. "Buying 11 cars isn't the way for a 22-year-old to spend his money," added Nick Cox of Juneau, Wis. David G. Speck of Alexandria, Va., wrote that several years ago he participated in an NFL program that provided financial education and advice to players, particularly young ones. (The program was abandoned, Speck said, because some of the financial advisers "were doing too much selling of their own services.") Speck wrote of the athletes: "These are young men with relatively short careers, high earnings and little or no experience in managing their incomes. How many times do we have to read about great stars who are now down and out because they spent everything they earned and thought it would never end?"

In today's training camp practice, Nick Mangold and Brett Favre apparently had a fumbled exchange. Under the rules of Eric Mangini, one has to run a lap around the field if he happens to put the ball on the ground for any reason. These rules apply to the legend, the icon and the media darling Brett Favre.

Different players became focal points of the passing offense. There was a strong transition from using TEs as just an extension of the offensive line into using a TE as a pass option. Now solid catching TEs are important parts of the passing game for half of the teams in the league.

Roethlisberger earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 and his first Pro Bowl selection in 2007. He became the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history, helping lead the Steelers, in his second professional season, to a 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL at the age of 23. Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a second Super Bowl title in four seasons as they defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, 27-23, after completing a game-winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the final 35 seconds..

THEISMANN: You couldn't have Aaron Rogers starting and have Brett Favre sitting on the bench. You couldn't have Brett Favre sitting anywhere on the bench waiting to play after what he's done. That to me, would be the ultimate insult. The Black Muslims taught the X to read. He read many books and was something of the self educated man. He proselytized for the Black Muslim movement and developed quite a reputation as a 1960's radical.

The structure of the schedule will give Tennessee a big challenge right out of the gate. In their first six games before a bye week, the Titans will face only one losing squad (Jacksonville) from a year ago. Four of the six games will be on the road.

Rookie running back Marshall Faulk touched the ball 24 times on Sunday, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns and catching a screen pass for 31 yards in the Colts' 45-21 win over the Houston Oilers at the RCA Dome. "They were David, we were Goliath," said Oiler linebacker Micheal Barrow. "And their slingshot was Marshall Faulk.".

Ellis followed up his 2003 season with 11 sacks in 2004.[5] Ellis anchored a strong Jets run defense which contributed to a 10-6 season and a wild card berth. He also recorded three sacks in the final game of the 2004 regular season against the St. Louis Rams..

If you repeat this to anyone, I'll deny it, but last weekend I did something I'm not proud of. I watched preseason football. I don't mean just the first series or two, when the starters tried not to break anything but a sweat. One thing is certain: it won't be Bo. The Orlando Renegades have the No. 1 pick in Tuesday's USFL's draft, which is not as highly prized, or as highly publicized, as the zentai last week.

The Irish return two starting DB's for 2009 in S Kyle McCarthey, and CB Raeshon McNeil. McCarthey is just a stud and he will be one of the bright spots for the defense in 2009. Jr Darrin Walls returns to take over the other CB position after missing 2008 because of injury.

You might be wondering how Hanie didn't top the list, but you need to remind yourself that the venom for Caleb Hanie is likely fresh on your mind, and when you get to No. 1, you'll understand. Hanie salted away the Bears playoff hopes this year in just four games, and got benched in favor of a guy who was coaching high school football just six weeks prior.

If you are sold on Aaron Rodgers as the real deal I have some good choices,. Just remember that the current football card market is much different than in years past. Inserts, autographed cards and game worn swatch cards dominate today's market. Michael came into the NFL with a lot more fanfare than Josh Freeman but with less guidance. Does that excuse some of the mistakes he's made? No. And Michael certainly had the benefit of many support people in college and the NFL.

Austin does not have the best track record when it comes to performing the works of the Greeks. It seems that companies either try too hard to make the whole production contemporary, and so fill the stage with flashing lights and avant-garde set pieces until the whole thing looks more like a night at the disco than the sacking of Troy; or, they try to remain true to the Greek, and end up with dialogue and acting that just feel forced. There have been cases where things have come together to create notable works, as with ACC Bacchae or Rude Mechanicals' Dionysus in 69, but more often than not, things end up like Chaotic Theatre Lysistrata.

"Hopefully, I can return before the season ends. A Pro Bowl selection in 2008, Roos had an emergency appendectomy on Monday and the team was wary of bringing him back too soon. "We not going to take any risks or chances with that even though he feeling pretty good," Titans coach Mike Munchak told reporters on Friday.

greg camarillo caught off guard

LSU-As an assistant coach at Colorado, Gerry DiNardo installed the option that took the Buffaloes and quarterback Darian Hagan to a piece of the 1990 national title. As coach at Vanderbilt, he used the option exclusively to try to level the playing field for the outmanned Commodores. At LSU, quarterback Herb Tyler and tailback Kevin Faulk are the twin threats that DiNardo hopes will give pressure defenses fits.

Well, tonight I saw some of the magic come back. Kaká had a change of rhythm, he was fast with and without the ball. He and Ozil didn't bother each other and he was quick to press, and lightning fast to start up an attack and go on runs every chance he got.

Then you've been John Elway, the Denver Bronco quarterback who yanked the bone from the mouth of the Cleveland Dawgs, er, Browns, 23-20 in overtime, for the AFC Championship before 79,915 stunned fans in Cleveland Stadium on Sunday. No, let's clarify this metaphor. Elway didn't just pull victory from the Browns' mouth. He ripped the thing from halfway down their throat.

That said, we like the Saints to bounce back well here after getting embarrassed 30-7 at Carolina last week. The Panthers themselves were coming off of a terrible blowout loss prior to that game, and we look for New Orleans to have a similar reaction here. After all, quarterback Drew Brees is having an excellent season, completing 68.4 percent of his passes and averaging 8.46 yards per pass attempt while throwing for over 2200 yards and 12 touchdowns already.

Four meet records were broken at the event, two of these by Palmerton students. Palmerton Jacob Peck, lifting in the 14 to 15 year old, 150 pound class won the most outstanding lifter award for that class while breaking a 5 year old record with a 290 squat and a 230 bench.

Like their opponent this week, the Cowboys have been plagued by a lack of offensive balance during the course of this season, with the team putting up a sizzling 334.3 yards per game via the air (3rd overall) but ranking just 27th in rushing yards (78.0 ypg) right now. Dallas did make some notable progress running the football in Monday's hard-fought win, though, with top back Felix Jones (184 rushing yards, 1 TD, 7 receptions) fighting through a dislocated shoulder to grind out 115 yards on only 14 attempts. That strong showing helped ease the burden on a still-ailing Romo (942 passing yards, 4 TD, 2 INT), who managed 255 yards but showed noticeably wavering accuracy on longer throws against the Redskins. Though the dynamic Austin, who accumulated 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns in Week 2, won't be available again this week, Romo still has trusty tight end Jason Witten (19 receptions, 272 yards) to rely upon, and Bryant (7 receptions, 134 yards, 1 TD) -- who's tentatively slated to participate on Sunday -- is a premier player when at full strength,. Austin's place will be filled by some combination of the inconsistent Kevin Ogletree (7 receptions) and journeyman Laurent Robinson, who contributed three catches for 49 yards off the street in Monday's game.
