Wigston College progress to the third round of the National Cup.
Wigston College Under 15’s put in a determined performance to overcome Landau Forte Academy Amington in the National Cup. Having conceded early on, Wigston recovered well when Lewis White bravely headed home to equalise before the striker’s persistence lead to a ricocheted effort giving the hosts the lead. Brave goalkeeping from Mason Bannister lead to the goalkeeper coming off late on in the first half and stand in goalkeeper Josh Atkinson, who provided a composed and efficient performance, could do nothing about Landau Forte’s late first half equaliser.
Again, the Yellows found themselves a goal down early on in the half. However, a clever through ball from White found the on-rushing Tesfa Matthew who broke the offside trap and coolly went past the goalkeeper before slotting home to bring the hosts level. Forte then took the lead for the third time but as the game entered final 10 minutes, Wigston showed their fighting colours. Firstly, White drew a defender into a foul in the penalty area before calmly finishing the resulting penalty. Then, with 5 minutes on the clock, Matthew’s pinpoint cross-field pass found White who showed neat footwork before powering the ball past the helpless Forte keeper.
