GREENVILLE, SC – Upstate business owner Angela Self is among the first in the state to become a certified building biology environmental consultant from the International Institute for Building-Biology & Ecology in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Self is the principal and founder of Vital Spaces, which works with businesses and individuals to create healthier indoor environments.
The institute guides both the general public and working professionals such as architects, builders, engineers, physicians and design consultants in an understanding of the relationship between natural and built environments.
The building biology environmental consultant program equips professionals with practical, hands-on experience in identifying, assessing and mitigating or eliminating pollutants, toxins, and electromagnetic emissions in homes, school, and offices. Certified building biologists are experts in prevention and able to advise homeowners, architects and builders in the methods and practices that create and maintain an environmentally healthy home or commercial building.
“Homes and businesses are riddled with dangerous items. Most people don’t realize indoor air is, on average, five to 10 times more polluted than outside air,” Self said. “But the good news is alternative products are available and there are ways to make indoor spaces less toxic.”
