I’ve talked about my LOVE {okay, obsession} with sweet tea. I’m a Georgia girl…born and raised. Dinner just isn’t dinner without a big ol’ glass of sweet tea. If you are not from the south and you grew up with unsweet tea…you just don’t understand. It is okay, I won’t hold it against you. But, please don’t be offended if I pack my tea bags and sack of sugar when I come to visit! {I’m so not joking!}
Sweet tea isn’t complicated. It is really quite simple. You need three things: tea bags, water, and sugar. People will argue about which tea bags are best…we all have our favorite brands. My go to tea is Luzianne family sized tea bags.
And, as far as sugar goes, there is a lot of noise about which sweetener is best for you. I am just going to be totally honest with you. Sugar is bad news. You are much better to go with a natural sweetener like honey, honey granules, or sucanat. And…I do. I use all these sweeteners for all of my cooking needs – except sweet tea. I’ve tried swapping the sugar for honey and it flavors the tea too much. Sucanat is a great swap for brown sugar so it isn’t good in sweet tea either. So, for sweet tea my recommendation is organic sugar cane. It isn’t the best sweeter, but I limit myself to using it in sweet tea and I have one glass…with dinner. It is a tradition that cannot be broken.
