DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - The Daikin Festival returns to the Morgan County Fairgrounds Friday, May 27.
From 6:30-9:00 p.m., everyone is welcome to enjoy theĀ freeĀ event, which blends the traditional Japanese culture of the Osaka-based company with Southern flair.
There will be live Japanese music, including a performance on Taiko drums by Daikin employees. Festival goers are also invited to participate in Japanese folk dances.
Other bands will play country, Cajun, rock and roll and big band music.
As far as food, there will be plenty of Yakisoba, a stir-fried mix of noodles, cabbage, chopped carrots and roast beef - along with jambalaya, barbeque sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream.
All food and drinks are free of charge and there is no fee for any of the activities, which will include children's games, inflatables, door prizes and more.
At the end of the evening, the grand prize will be given away - a family vacation to Walt Disney World. You must be present to win.
Festival goers are asked to leave their pets at home and leave any purses, bags or backpacks in the car.
There will be plenty of seats available at the event and free parking at the fairgrounds. In addition, free round-trip shuttle service will be provided from the Decatur Mall and Austin High School.
This year, the traditional "happi coat" - a Japanese cloth jacket - will not be given out to guests. However, anyone who has a coat from previous years is asked to wear it in celebration.
This is the 22nd year for the Daikin Festival.
