HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The past several years have seen Huntsville retain its unwanted crown as a city with some of the highest airfares in the nation.

The latest report from the U.S. Department of Transportation shows an average round-trip ticket from the Rocket City now running at a whopping $544.

But believe it or not low fares can be found according to Port of Huntsville spokeswoman Chantal Minish.

“I do think Huntsville Hot Ticket is one of the best kept secrets in the community.”

Minish says the program that started several years ago has thousands of registered clients who receive updates about flight rates via email – so what do they know that you don’t know?

“Huntsville Hot Ticket is staffed by professional travel agents so they have the ability to look at all of the fares across the board and they have access to a lot of things that aren’t advertised online,” Minish explains.

There is even a hotline clients can call to speak with a travel agent – an actual human being – and begin planning their trip in advance with help all along the way.

“Low fares can be found here,” says Minish, “it just requires that you be a little more flexible, that you plan in advance and that you book early.”

The airport says if you need help from a real person with questions about booking a ticket, group travel, or the latest rules and regulations, their Hot Line (256-258-1944) connects you directly with a travel specialist who is happy to help.
