ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) – The Athens State University Board of Trustees met Friday and approved a tuition increase for the 2013-14 school year.
Students will pay $14 more per semester hour. This is a 9.2 percent increase. The board says this will keep University’s tuition rates the lowest among all state universities.
“The University and the Board of Trustees are committed to keeping our tuition affordable,” said President Bob Glenn. “When you consider cost and the quality of education, we believe students receive a tremendous value at Athens State.”
Glenn says Athens State is able to keep tuition low because almost two-thirds of their 3,450 students are on-line students, meaning most students never set foot on campus to attend classes.
The tuition increase only affects those students taking traditional or blended classes. There is no change to tuition rates for those students taking full online courses.
Tuition will be $167 per credit hour or $2,505 per semester for a student taking 15 hours of classes.
