ROBERT MILLER [Eastern Michigan University Professor] (Detroit/Plymouth, MI) Hi Jim, Oh yes! I remember the Little Red Barn (steakhouse). It’s been there a long time as well. By the time I get out of here (San Antonio, TX) I’ll have to go on a diet! All the best, my friend! Bob

[Gentleman] JIM CARTER [KCBQ/KNUS/WFAA/KONO/KLIF/KXOL/KBUC] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Fiddlin’ Chubby Anthony… Hi Jimmy boy: I enjoyed the tributes to Johnny Gimble. However, I’m not so sure he was the best fiddler to ever strum a fiddle. There was this bluegrass fiddler named Chubby Anthony who is called by many as the best fiddler ever. I’ll let you listen to him on this version of the Orange Blossom Special…enjoy! Gentleman Jim Carter/San Antonio, Texas

MIKE KELLAM [ex KHFI FM/KHFI-970, NBC WMAQ-670 engineer] (Estes Park, CO) Subject: Remember J.C. Kellam? Hi, Jim! Thanks for these tidbits Sorry for the VERY late reply. After vacation in Florida (yuk!), it took a couple of weeks to recover. When I moved to Austin, Jake Pickle was our congressman. Also, around that time, Roy Butler (a buddy of LBJ and Pickle) was said to be the head man at KVET, probably when Pickle became a congressman. Butler also sat on the Channel 24 construction permit for some years forestalling competition to KTBC-TV which was the sole TV station in the market from the late ’40s or early ’50s until 1966 when KHFI-TV went on the air. There was a lot of politics behind these stations at those times. Hope that wasn’t too long! Hope you and furry friend are well. Mike Kellam

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1930, Lowell Thomas delivers a nightly news and commentary program on the CBS Radio network. In 1939, Lowell hosts the first-ever television-news broadcast on NBC TV. In Summer 1940, Thomas anchors the first live telecast of a political convention, the 1940 Republican National Convention. For four decades, Lowell is a radio newscaster until he retires on May 14, 1976. Lowell Thomas has the longest radio career of anyone in his day, a record that Paul Harvey later eclipses.

GEORGE GIMARC [ex WRR, KNTU, KDNT, KZEW, KRQX, KZPS, KNON and KDGE] (Dallas, TX) Subject: KLGO-1260. That is correct. Comedy returns to Austin (TX) where it previous had a great run with Emmis. It’s very far ranging Safe-For-Work comedy, carefully and cleverly edited so that you never hear a beep or naughty word – but still is max funny. It’s also very contemporary – most of what we play is from the last ten years. George Gimarc CEO
