TOM ELLIS [Veteran WABC TV, NYC WBZ TV Boston, MA & KONO TV San Antonio, TX news anchor] (Boston-Cape Cod-East Sandwich, MA) Hi, Jim and Suzie, By Petula’s big time I had already switched to all news all the time. As a DJ, this reporter missed the British invasion. Was never very crazy about any of them except maybe the Stones. Tom

CHUCK DUNAWAY [former DJ on WABC-770, KLIF-1190, KBOX-1480 & KILT-610] (Houston-Katy, TX)Subject: answer to a question. Dave Michaels asked if the Russ Knight story about Jack Ruby was true and I can vouch for its authenticity. Ruby would bring sandwiches to the KLIF studios for the jocks. Jack would put the name of his club on a black board we had in the control room. He’d ask us to plug him and it was OK to give him a plug by Gordon who liked Ruby…as did we all. He seemed like a nice fellow. I remember going to the Carousel club and drinking coffee with Jack…we never talked politics. When he shot Oswald I was watching the jail transfer on live TV. Shortly after it happened Ken Dowe rang my door bell. I answered with Ruby has shot Oswald. Ken told the story to the Warren commission and it came out in the book of transcripts. Russ and Dowe both testified at the Warren commission hearings. One of the famous lines was when Russ mentioned Gordon McLendon he asked Justice Warren if he knew McLendon. It’s all true and it’s in the Warren commission book.

DON SUNDEEN [former KCOH-1430 OM/PD/DJ-Hi Records promotion-TV ad prod] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Bermuda Radio Archive Network. Jim, thought you’d find this radio ‘small world’ story interesting. Written by Jim Richards, morning man at ZBM 2, the station we tried to compete with in Bermuda in the early 60’s… ZBM 1 and 2 were based on the BBC model and staffed by announcers from Britain’s possessions, Canada, Australia, and other English speaking countries, all well paid and professional. They wouldn’t hire me because I was an American, even for a part-time gig, so I ended up on the native station, ZFB, the only non-Bermudian, and as the newly minted Canadian Donnie Dare. The story Jim tells is true and almost too coincidental. Bermuda Radio Archive Network.

CHARLES GEORGE [ex KCHU FM] (Dallas, TX) Subject: Is Radio Really Dead? In my Speech class I had two friends at the time: Joe Jeff Glodblatt and Jerry Karlovich. Jerry already had his 1st Class license, if I remember correctly, and did a show on KNER at the Buckner Children’s Home. I am not sure whether he is still in Broadcasting. He was also in my Geometry Class along with a Randy Adams. Jeff Glodblatt was good as a Thespian. I talk with him a few times after I graduated, but lost contact with him. Joe once suggested that I teach Speech Therapy, since I had learned how to overcome certain problems through Speech Therapy myself. Charles George KC5RAI

TRIVIA ANSWER: In early 1964, while they perform at The Troubadour folk club in Los Angeles, CA Jim McGuinn, Gene Clark and David Crosby form The Jet Set trio. In mid-1964, drummer Michael Clarke joins The Jet Set. To cash in on the British Invasion craze for an Electra records session they briefly change their name to British-sounding The Beefeaters. In October 1964, producer Jim Dickson brings in mandolin player Chris Hillman as bassist. During Thanksgiving 1964, the Jet Set become The Byrds. On January 20, 1965, The Byrds record Bob Dylan’s tune Mr. Tambourine Man as their debut single on Columbia records at Columbia Studios in Hollywood, CA and the rest is history.

JIM CARTER [KBUC FM, KONO-860, KTSA-550, KLIF-1190, WFAA-570, KCBQ-1170] (San Antonio, TX)Happy Thanksgiving Jimbo: BTW, my 69th rung on the birthday ladder occurs this Friday Nov. 28th. If I’d known I was gonna live this long I would’ve tried to figger out a way not to a long time ago! This gittin’ old bidness is scary…if you don’t believe me just ask Jimmy Rabbitt…he’s now older than KLIF’s Granny Emma! lol. Have some turkey for me! Gentleman Jim Carter/San Antonio, Texas

SATCHEL PAIGE [Negro League pitcher who elects to Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971] (July 7, 1906 – June 8, 1982) Age is a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter.
