With the Sold Out tribute concert already hosting top names in all genres of music, Nancy Jones has announced the addition of George Strait, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Reba McEntire, and Alabama to the all-star lineup. “I am thrilled and honored that so many of George’s friends are coming to what would have been his last concert, but is not a fitting tribute,” says Nancy Jones. “George loved these artists and before passing had actually wrote letters to almost all of them.”
The newly added list of performers will join previously announced artists Alan Jackson, Dierks Bentley, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Josh Turner, The Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Sam Moore, and others.
All previously announced artists are currently being reconfirmed. The star-studded tribute concert will be held November 22 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
The Earl Scruggs Center, scheduled to open early next year will explore Scruggs’ innovative career and the community that gave it shape while celebrating how he crossed musical boundaries and defined the voice of the banjo to the world.
The Earl Scruggs Center: Music and Stories from the American South will open January 11, 2014 with a dedication, music, a ribbon cutting, open house and a star-packed (stars to be announced) concert “Remembering Earl: Music & Stories” event. The day’s activities will be at the Center, while the evening concert will be at Shelby High School’s Malcolm Brown Auditorium, where Scruggs performed in 2007 and 2009. News Briefs: Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan will return in 2014 to co-host the ACM Awards for the second time. ••• Flynnville Train has signed a worldwide distribution deal for their new album, Back On Track with AGR Television Records in Germany, distributed by Universal. The group will perform on the 25th Annual Gstaad Festival in Switzerland, Sept. 20-21. ••• Randy Travis will release his 21st studio album September 30 on Warner Bros. Records. The album, titled Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am, is available for pre-order now on RandyTravis.com. ••• Joe Nichols’ forthcoming CD, Crickets, is due Oct. 8 on Red Bow Records. The lead single, “Sunny and 75,” is currently in the Top 25 of the charts and climbing. Among the 16 tracks, is an excellent cover of Merle Haggard’s “Footlights,” a song that is not only one Joe practiced singing in his bedroom as a child, but also one extremely personal to him and his father Mike, who passed away a decade ago.
The Oak Ridge Boys will celebrate their 24th Anniversary of their annual Christmas Tour in 2013 with a festive show featuring live performances of holiday classics and their biggest hits. The Christmas Time’s-A-Comin’ Tour kicks off November 5-7 in Branson, MO. Additionally, Richard Sterban, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, and Joe Bonsall are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of The Oak Ridge Boys.
Eight songwriters and four artist/songwriters have been nominated for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Nominees in the songwriter category” Don Cook, Marcus Hummon, Mark James, Will Jennings, Dan Penn, John Scott Sherrill, Jeffrey Steele and Rafe Van Hoy. The nominees in the songwriter/artist category: David Bellamy (The Bellamy Brothers), Ronnie Dunn (Brooks & Dunn), Toby Keith and Randy Owen (Alabama).
A selection of watercolors by multi-talented singer/songwriter Steve Wariner will be part of three exhibits at the Tennessee State Museum centered around a musical theme. The exhibition, entitled “Wariner’s Watercolors: Paintings by Steve Wariner,” will feature approximately 21 of Wariner’s favorite paintings. It opens on October 11.
Multi platinum recording artist Trace Adkins and NASCAR superstar Danica Patrick will co-host the fourth annual American Country Awards, airing live from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, December. 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. This is Adkins’ fourth time serving as a host of the annual awards show, which gives fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists in categories such as artists, albums, singles, videos and touring, encompassing the entire spectrum of country music and bestowing honors that no other awards show has. In May 2004, Gretchen Wilson celebrated the release of her record-setting Here For The Party cd with several hundred of her closest friends at the famous St. Louis nightclub The Pageant. On October 15, Gretchen and her band will return there to perform the ground-breaking album in its entirety for the first time. The one-night-only event will be recorded for a live STILL Here For The Party CD and DVD, set for release in May 2014 to commemorate the cd’s 10-year anniversary.
National television correspondent Megan Alexander returns to Nashville October 24 to host the 19th annual Inspirational Country Music Awards. Taking place at The Fellowship at Two Rivers (2800 McGavock Pike), the Awards will feature performances by reigning ICM Entertainer Chuck Day, former lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band Guy Penrod with special guest Sarah Darling, Additional presente/performer announcements coming soon.

Lorrie Morgan and her children, Jesse Keith Whitley and Morgan Whitley, accepted the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award in recognition of the late Keith Whitley for his contributions to the history and future of country music as part of the Academy of Country Music’s 7th Annual ACM Honors September 10th at the historic Ryman Auditorium., Lorrie and son, Jesse Keith, performed their heartfelt rendition of “Til A Tear Becomes A Rose” to which the performance met with overwhelming and embracing applause.
The song was originally recorded by Keith Whitley as a duet with Lorrie and posthumously released in 1990; it was the only single from Whitley’s Greatest Hits album. The single peaked at No. 13 on the country singles charts.
