When you are visiting St. Simons Island and want a special sit-down meal with an intimate setting and savvy menu, the Georgia Sea Grill is what comes to mind. It is one of St. Simons Island’s best choices for fresh seafood and delightful service. Located in the Pier/Village area, Georgia Sea Grill’s menu is filled with items that showcase their close proximity to fresh seafood and Southern culinary creations. During a recent press trip, a group of bloggers and myself found their food to be exquisite.

Impressive Appetizers

The atmosphere at Georgia Sea Grill is one of welcoming staff and lovely decor with a casual and relaxed ambiance. I loved the romantic feel and coziness the upscale restaurant offered, with the lights dim and soft music playing. The Georgia Sea Grill’s gorgeous dishes really stood out to me. They contrasted well against the food on the plates, making for really attractive photos. Pretty herbs and flowers were used to dress up the plates, adding a certain amount of pizazz.

I started my evening at Georgia Sea Grill with the Fried Pimento Cheese appetizer. These balls of pimento cheese are breaded,  flash fried, and then drizzled with a Tabasco syrup. It was a clever concoction, not to mention delicious. You first taste the cheesy goodness and when the Tabasco after bite hits, your palate really wakes up. Other appetizers my group enjoyed were the garlicky butter-rich Escargot, served with a thimble sized piece of puff pastry, and the Cornmeal Dusted Oysters. If you have never tried Escargot, this is the place to begin. Many of us had not eaten “snails” before, but quickly fell in love with them. We also ordered a variety of salads and one of Georgia Sea Grill’s signature items, the decadent Low Country Crab Soup. Nom!

Impressive Regional Dinners

Between all of us, we ordered the Georgia Sea Grill’s Shrimp & Grits, Seared Sea Scallops, Grilled Filet Mignon, Herb Crusted Lamb Racks, and Baked Lump Crab Cakes. Oh my! Our plates arrived looking like they were ready for a magazine shoot. All of us began taking pictures of our beautifully plated dishes.

The Filet Mignon was my dinner choice. I  try to eat a couple of high quality steaks each year and this one was definitely up there with the best. My well-seasoned steak was served with whipped potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts mixed with bleu cheese. The steak’s rosemary red wine reduction was the icing on the cake. Wow, this dish was spectacular!

“Despite specializing in seafood, the Roasted Beet Salad and the Butternut Squash Ravioli with brown butter and sage stood out on the menu and I had to give them a try. Both were savory and delicious. Between the flavorful food and the friendly attentive service I would recommend booking a table at the Ocean Grill next time you are in St. Simmons for a special night out.”- Dana Howard Freeman, Freelance Journalist

Seafood Options Galore

Georgia Sea Grill offers a large selection of fresh catch menu items, available in three styles: Cajun Spiced, Bronzed, and Pan-Roasted. Each is served with fabulous topping, including the Bronze with Hoppin’ John, pickled Okra, and Tomato Cream. Is that not just drool-worthy?

I was too full to try the desserts, but a few people in my group tried the Warm Chocolate Cake, Key Lime Pie, and Georgia Pecan Pie. They raved about all three!

Quote: “The Georgia Sea Grill didn’t disappoint. They have a cozy and intimate atmosphere and fantastic food. I had their wine sampler, short ribs and Georgia pecan pie, and would totally order again.”- Lara Dunning of Small Town Washington

It was an impressive night for my friends and I with our stellar meals from the Georgia Sea Grill. I should mention that they can also accommodate those with gluten allergies. Opt for the Georgia Sea Grill’s First Call offerings every day from 5-6:30 PM to save a few dollars on both food and beverages. This is one restaurant you will not want to miss on your St. Simons Island vacation.
