The 3rd Filipino ReaderCon: What Do Readers Want? On Nov 9 at the Rizal Library – Ateneo de Manila University

When in Manila on November 9, keep calm and rock on at the Rizal Library – Ateneo de Manila University, for the biggest, most awesome reader event of the year, The 3rd Filipino ReaderCon!

That’s right, you read that right. Filipino readers now have a very strong voice in the country. We have a say on what we want to read and publish. We have a venue where we can interact with writers and publishers. We have a community where we can support and celebrate each other’s love of reading. We have a platform where we can actually influence the growth of reading in the Philippines. No matter what surveys say, we know there are many Filipinos who love to read and the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon is an awesome way to unite all these Filipino readers.

Authors are readers, too, and quite a number of our popular Filipino authors will be part of the program, including Eros Atalia, Ramon Bautista, Kate Evangelista, Gerry Alanguilan, Lourd de Veyra, Eliza Victoria, Danga Bagas, Luis Gatmaitan, Frances Ong, Zarah Gagatiga, Aly Almario, Angel Bautista, and Budjette Tan.

The Indie booksellers Bookay-Ukay, Summit and Fully Booked will also join to share their experiences about selling books.

Book discussions will be conducted by the following book clubs:

Flips Flipping Pages on Seasons of Mist by Neil Gaiman

Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books on Walong Diwata ng Pagkahulog by Edgar Calabria Samar

Goodreads – The Filipino Group on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

RMM Booked Up on Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Winners of the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards will be announced during the event. An initiative of the Filipino Book Bloggers Group, the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards debuted at the 2nd Filipino Reader Conference in 2012, and was established to develop awareness and appreciation of Philippine literature, recognize the reader’s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work, and give the readers a voice in the Philippine book industry.

There is a registration fee of Php150 (inclusive of a kit, snacks and a certificate), and it will be collected on the day itself. You can still walk in, of course, but priority will be given to everyone who pre-registered.

If you’re going to the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon, make sure you pre-register to secure your slot!

I suggest you visit the Filipino ReaderCon website now because they already have some exciting pre-event activities happening including the Pinoy Book Drop, a sort of lost-and-found adventure for readers.
