2014-09-01

We officially bid August goodbye today as the Ber-months usher in. I can’t help but feel a little bit melancholic because time flies so quickly. Agree? I feel like I haven’t accomplished a lot of things that I planned to do for this year and yet, we’re just a quarter away before 2014 comes to a close. Case in point, I still have a lot of pending posts that are waiting to be published. Heck, most of it may seem immaterial once up, but blogging on the side while doing other grown up stuff and enjoying life can be very challenging. Excuses, excuses. However, I’m very thankful to those who still browse this page to check whether there’s a new content or just to say hi. I really appreciate that a lot! It keeps me motivated to blog knowing that there are people who read them. LOL. I promised myself to get back on track and be more organized starting today so I hope that works out not just in blogging, but also in the other aspects of my life. How’s the past 8 months have been for you?
Anyhoots, this blog has been an unboxing of beauty boxes lately, but I promise more product features will be up in the coming days. If you read my last unboxing post, I expressed less enthusiasm on the products included. I’m very appreciative of products I get from beauty boxes. I always find the good and use for them regardless of the brand or how limited samples they come. I don’t discriminate brands or at least try not to because, hello, I don’t know all nor have I tried everything. The beauty of discovery is what’s these boxes are mostly about, which on the other hand can be disappointing, too. The July products were very useful, but just too simple. I asked myself as I write this, “What is it do I really want in a beauty box?” and all I can think of is, “exciting, new brands in ample samples or full-size!” I’m sure it’s tough being a beauty box curator because first, you have to come up with a theme, then think of products for it and of course, deal with various preferences. HAHA. It’s complicated. Women are complicated! At the end of the day, you can only do so much. We can’t be pleased all the time. LOL. With that, will the August box be better or enough to redeem itself?
My heart beat faster upon ripping the package open because the box has a special Shiseido sleeve and it says “Congratulations, you’re an August Golden Ticket Winner!” So I thought it was an exclusive box. I was also slightly confused because I have no idea what contest I joined in and was curious what prize I won. Turns out, 100 subscribers get to find a full-sized Shiseido Ultimune! Did I win? Read on to find out.

However, don’t get confused because the focal point for August is our crowning glory. We can have the nicest of skins or perfect makeup, but our hair can make or break our look. It’s not on top of our heads for nothing, right? Now I feel like this box is meant for me because, as I’ve mentioned in this blog so many times before, my hair is the last of my priorities. LOL. . It isn’t exactly uncooperative but neither is it pretty, too. Messy hurr, don’t curr is my philosophy. I like the bed head or the #IWokeUpLikeThis look. I don’t comb and you hardly find a brush in my bag. I made conscious efforts by using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, but that’s about it. I rarely style my hair, too! I just spritz it with salt spray, give it a little squeeze or put it in a bun for volume. The thought of going to the salon is a chore for me. I only do when I remember like once or twice a year just to get a trim. Gah, I just can’t find myself sitting on my ass after an hour or so! LOL. But I don’t mind treating my tresses using off the shelf products especially if the product works wonders. It’s more convenient and cheaper for me too. HAHA.
So moving on to the products.. Well, surprisingly, not everything’s meant for the hurr. It has a mix of hair, makeup and skin care.

1. Garnier Color Naturals (Php 199, 100ml) – “Get natural looking and long-lasting color, while leaving your hair soft and silky. It’s easy to apply, non-drip cream formula is enriched with natural olive oil to nourish your hair as it colors.”

• I’ve never dyed my hair myself before and I don’t intend to experiment. HAHA. I’ve received a few boxes of this dye in previous subs but I just end up giving them to my mom. No really big on hair dyes and would prefer having it done professionally, too. I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m getting a little bit tired of seeing Garnier almost in all BDJ Boxes.

2. L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil (Php 995, 120 ml) – “Enriched with a special blend of Avocado and Grape Seed Oil, L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil cares and pampers all hair types. Nourishing even the finest hair, the formula leaves hair shiny and supple.”

• I’m not big on styling or treatment products because they tend to make my hair and scalp oily and limp. I guess, for me, this is best applied on days I don’t condition my hair to make sure it won’t look limp.

3. L’Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil Nourishing Masque (Php 1,095, 200ml) -

“This masque has a paraben-free formula with Argan Oil and Cotton Seed Oil that works to balance hair’s natural oil levels, targeting very dry ends to deliver intense nourishment for deeply nourished, disciplined and glowing hair.”

• I like masques because it’s a cheap way to pamper your tresses at the comforts of your home! I’ve tried a couple of products and I love them because they’re more powerful than your conditioners. I’m interested with this product because I love anything with Argan Oil. Ever since I learned about it and tried it. I’ve been obsessed because it does work well with my dry, damaged hurr! It makes my hair smooth and tangle-free! My only concern would be that it doesn’t put weight on my hair.

4. Fan Di Fendi Blossom (Php 2,850, 30 ml) – This new fragrance has a perfect combination of fruity, floral and musk notes for irresistible sparkling freshness, ultra-feminine yet delicious scent and enhanced sophistication. Get a lighter and fresher scent with a sensual and feminine touch.”

• By the description alone, it seems like this is something I would wear. It has all the criteria I’m looking for in a perfume. Fruity, floral, musky and fresh? Yes, please! I’m quite picky when it comes perfumes with floral notes so I hope it has the right mix to entice my nostrils. I just find it weird that samples come in sachets. :x

5. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Shine (Php 350, 4g) – “Indulge in the bold luxurious shades of Revlon’s most iconic lipstick. It’s LiquiSilk formula seals in color and softness. Delight in its dazzling array of fabulous and fashionable shades, you’re sure to find one you’ll love.”

• I love the Super Lustrous line and I got myself a few tubes from my trip to the States last year! They’re very moisturizing and pigmented, though I wish they are more long-lasting. Most of the shades I already have lean towards muted shades so it’s nice to get something bold, like this red shade.

6. Blo Vouchers (Php 400) – “Get 20% off on any blo’s 7 signature hairstyles and a free Deep Conditiontioning Treatment for every blo out!”

• I rarely use GCs from sub boxes nor get my hair styled, but this is something I want to experience since I’ve tried Blow Bar before and I’m curious to see how different Blo from that.

7. Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate (Php 3,500, 30ml) – “Boost your underlying beauty with this luxurious essence from Shiseido. It has the Ultimune complex that was developed from 20 years of dermatological research. With just one week of daily use, skin is supple and glows with health.”

*TADAH! I’m one of the lucky winners to get a full-sized bottle of this serum! I’m so happy! My skin care routine changes every so often but if there’s one thing that’s constant, it’s the inclusion of serums in it. I was fortunate to have been invited to the Shiseido International Fair a few months ago and my skin was analyzed using their machine. I have normal to oily skin, but the results say that the other parts of my face are very dry. This could be the product of too much chemical peels I’ve gotten in the past. So applying an essence at night would help bring back the moisture to my skin. I just apply it very sparingly and on affected areas because my skin tends to get oily especially on the T-zone. I’m excited to try this out because lot of study was put into it and I know that Shiseido has good skin care products too.

That’s that for the August BDJ Box. It was misleading at first because of the sleeve and a little disappointing knowing that it’s not 100% in theme but I like the other items thrown in the mix. I hope there’ll be less Garnier products in the future. I don’t hate their products. I just find them becoming a staple or a filler in most boxes that it doesn’t excite me anymore. Do I like the box? It’s okay. I’m low-key when it comes to my hair even if I wear it long. But having the full-sized bottle of the Shiseido essence makes a lot of difference for me. I wouldn’t like this box at all if it weren’t for that! If you want to get a chance I win a full-sized bottle, join the 7-day challenge!
