I’ve been browsing through Spring/Summer 2014 makeup trends for inspiration and got interested with the cat eye look once again. I used to sport the feline flick a whole lot before to the point that it became my trademark look. I felt incomplete without it then! It’s no longer a staple in my daily makeup routine now but I still wear it from time to time to perk up my droopy eyes. I wear it either straight and close to the lashes to make my eyes appear bigger and my lashes fuller or slightly winged for a Cleopatra-ish effect. I was never one to wear some crazy eye liner look, however, geometric and graphic eyes reigned the runways this year and got me intrigued with the whole edgy, trendy eye liner look. Here are some of the styles that I’m interested to try. Which is your favorite?

My medium of choice has always been liquid but I’ve been leaning towards cream lately for its versatility. I bought a cheaper one from Essence to practice with and as soon as I got the hang of it, I picked up Laura Mercier’s Creme Eye Liner in Noir. I was aiming for Bobbi Brown initially but the pot is smaller and pricier so I checked Laura Mercier and found their Creme Eye Liner to be better priced for its size.

“Laura Mercier’s Creme Eye Liner in Noir is ann ultrasmooth, waterproof, creamy eyeliner that applies with the silky finish of a gel and the precision of a liquid liner.”

What it does:
“This ultrasmooth creamy formula provides a silky soft finish with the precision of a liquid liner. Waterproof and designed for extended wear (up to eight hours), it is smudge-proof, transfer-resistant, and crease-free. It glides on smoothly and evenly, delivering immediate color-impact and intensity. Along with creating a fine, precise line and definition in one stroke, it also provides a beautiful, semi-matte, non-oily finish with full-coverage color.”

The Creme Eye Liner released last Spring came in 6 colors but I chose Noir, a basic jet black, since it’s a classic. Aside from the pot being slightly bigger than its competitors, it’s much cheaper than Bobbi Brown and MAC too. Drawing a line with this eye liner is effortless as the cream is unbelievably buttery and glides like a dream. The texture is like a combination of a gel and a cream. It’s very pigmented that a slight dip of your brush is enough to line your lash line. For an an intense solid color, however, you need to go over it twice. It doesn’t dry very quickly so you have a few minutes to blend it out should you go for a smudged effect. It does transfer to the crease and/or lower lash line so if you don’t want to end up looking like a panda, you need to spare a few minutes for this. If completely dried, it.does.not.slide.at.all! I sometimes purposely let it transfer on my lower lash line for a rimmed effect and I actually kinda like the subtle messy smoked out look.

Wearing Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner in Noir

This is how I usually wear my eye liner: thick and slightly winged. I prefer this look because I feel it suits the shape of my eyes despite the lack of lid space. It makes my lashes fluttery and long. And unlike other asians, I kinda like the illusion of having monolids. I feel more.. asian. Am I the only one who thinks this way? LOL.

All in all, this is a versatile product to have. Although I haven’t tested if it’s really waterproof, I can say that it has amazing long-lasting power. It looks fresh, intense and doesn’t crease even after 10 hours. It’s very easy to apply because of it’s smooth consistency. You won’t have to drag your brush! They do set/dry quickly but you have a few seconds of playtime to correct or perfect your eye makeup!
