2013-11-30

It’s almost December and in just a few weeks we’ll be celebrating Christmas and New Year after that! Honestly, I wasn’t looking forward to Christmas at all. There’s so many tragic events that had happened in the last few weeks and months that I can’t find myself to be merry knowing that others will just celebrate it like an ordinary day. I’m more excited about the coming year because that would mean a fresh start. However, there are also so many things to be thankful for. Even if I didn’t experience Haiyan, I learned a lot. Life is indeed short and sometimes, very short. So I’m most thankful for my life and the lives of my family and loved ones. I’m not the most expressive person but I’m trying my best to make them feel they’re important to me because, you know? You can never tell when your time is up. Take away my makeup but not my family. Anyway, that’s not really the point of this post. I just remembered that it’s Thanksgiving in the States and although we don’t have it here, it’s great way to celebrate the people, experiences etc. that we’re thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!

Another reason to be thankful this day is this gigantic BDJ Elite Box sent by the BDJ Team! They’re spreading the Christmas spirit! Thank you BDJ Team for the early Christmas present! This edition of the BDJ Elite Box is an exclusive by L’Oreal and let me tell you, it’s heavy! Themed as Holiday Glam Extraordinaire, contents of this box aim to help us look party ready for the coming festivities!

This box has A LOT of stuff! We have here 11 products and mostly in full-size! There’s also a little bit of everything from hair treatment, skin care, nail art and of course, makeup! It can be tricky mixing and matching stuff as we have our biases but this box just got the balance right. If you’ll do the math, everything will cost around PHP6,000 if you buy the products separately. If you get the BDJ Elite Box, you only pay PHP 1,880 for everythanggg! Isn’t that awesome? Now let’s take a look at the products.

Lucent Magique Highlighter Pen in Fair(Php 725, 1.6ml) - “No more imperfections with this 1st Touch of Light concealer pen. A magical touch-up pen infused with breakthrough Liquid Light Byron technology. Corrects and illuminates the 5 main areas of fatigue and imperfection. Light up every detail, every contour.”

Shine Caresse Wetstain in Milady (Php 595, 6ml) - “Shine Caresse’s ultra-light fluid texture immediately melts onto the lips for a long-lasting moist-effect combined with completely unprecedented comfort and freshness, redefines shine with an all new sensation of soft, moist lips.”

Color Riche L’Or Sunset in Smokey Rouge(Php 625, 3.9 g) –  “New limited edition L’Or sunset by color riche with shimmering bronze and glimmering copper to give you that stunning marble looks.”

L’Oreal MU Pouch (Php 300) - “Easily bring your beauty essentials with you all the time with this make up pouch from L’Oreal Paris. It has a built in mirror so you can quickly check your makeup while on the go.”

**These 3 are obviously my top picks from the bunch simply because it’s makeup! They also come in gold packaging which makes them look more expensive than they are!

I’m most interested with the Magique Highlighter Pen because I like a good brightening product for my dark bags so I hope it’s good. I’m happy that it comes in a twist-up pen so it’s easy to tote around.  I’m also curious how this compares with YSL’s Touche Eclat Radiant Touch.  We all know that L’Oreal bought YSL in 2008 but we can’t just assume that this L’Oreal one is an actual dupe. I’m also looking at the one from Maybelline but I don’t think it’s available locally. (?)

I’ve got a Shine Caress Wetstain in Juliette from a BDJ Box long time ago so I’m not new to this. I’m glad that it comes in a different shade, though! I’ve tested it before and I like the performance. I haven’t gotten the YSL version of this and I know I said I would but maybe in the faaar future.

I’ve not tried any L’Oreal lipsticks in the past so this will be my first. The shade is Smokey Rouge from their Cannes Collection. I’m quite intimidated by this shade because not only is it red, there’s also specks of glitter in it and glitters and I don’t get a long. I hope it doesn’t look like a wrecking disco ball when worn.

Of course, I like the pouch. It’s quite small but enough to fit basic necessities and it comes with a wide mirror too.

L’Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil (Php 499, 100 ml) - “Clever mix of active ingredients, the formulas made from 6 precious floral oil extracts supply the hair with dazzle, nourishment, softness, and shine-all with a light touch.”

Revitalift Anti-wrinkle + Firming Night Cream (Php 845, 50ml) – “Wake up with a refreshed radiant and younger looking skin each morning with this unique nighttime moisture that does the anti-wrinkle and firming action while you sleep! Fight the signs of skin aging in just 4 weeks.”

Revitalift Night Essence (Php 995, 30ml) - “Its breakthrough Dermalift technology is designed to stimulate your skin’s natural lifters and revive your skin’s firmness and elasticity. Wake up to ultra-firm, extra-smoothed and amazingly younger skin from the first morning.”

Revitalift Laser Serum (Php 1,399, 30ml) - “This renewing anti-agin cream has 3% highly concentrated Pro-Xylane with intensive triple action that helps refine pores, corrects lines and tone skin. The soft, silky serum fuses with the skin to visibly transform the skin’s texture.

Youth Code Pre-Essence (Php 1,495, 30 ml) - “This booster treatment restores all of the skin’s youthful strength and transforms skin’s quality to a deeply moisturized, incredibly softer, fresher and more refined skin in just one drop!

**I usually get shampoo and conditioner from my beauty boxes but it’s refreshing to see an oil treatment for the hair. I don’t know what’s with oil but I like them. Argan oil, Moroccan oil, whatever oil, I like. They’re quite tricky to use because they can make your scalp oily and drag the hair down but I feel that if used sparingly, they’re better than conditioner.

Can I just say that this night cream reminds me so much of Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Face Palette because of it’s packaging! They so look alike! Gah, it’s haunting me! Anyway, I just started using anti-aging stuff this year and while their effects are more difficult to see, I know that I’ll appreciate it later on if I keep on using. I like skin care products in this box because it targets my concern. I just wish that the Night Essence and Laser Serum came in bigger samples because I don’t think you can see effects right away with that amount.

Color Riche Le Vernis in Insolent Magenta (Php 199, 5ml) - “The 1st gel inside nail polish with incredible colors and shine. 18 modern and fashionable shades from basic to timeless colors to trendy hues. It’s fashion in a flash!”

Color Riche Le Nail Art Sticker (Php 395) - “For the 1st time in 3D, L’Oreal offers a full nail art sticker range for the most avante garde nail look. So quick, so chic. Nail art has never been this easy!”

**I’m not really a nail art person. I got a nail sticker in the previous boxes and I haven’t used them yet. It’s just not me. I still prefer having my nails painted. I got the shade 504 Insolent Magenta, a hot pink that’s perfect for any occasion.

I don’t know why I never tried the brand before. I feel silly. Anyhoooo, this is a great introduction to L’Oreal if you’re like me who’ve never tried anything L’Oreal. I also like there’s variety and a lot are in full-size! That’s a total of 11 products, 9 full-size and 2 trial-size! That’s so affordable and worth it.  If you can’t decide what to get  your mom or best friend for Christmas, get them a BDJ Elite Box! I’m sure they’d looove your for it! Or why not get it for yourself too? You deserve a treat for 2013. Remember, it’s limited so get it asap!
