Attend an Italian Opera Gala
Internationally renowned Italian soprano Monica De Rosa McKay and bass Pierpaolo Palloni will wow crowds with extracts from operas including Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Rossini’s Barber Of Seville, Donizetti’s Elisir D’amore and Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. Pianist Ramzi Hakim will provide the music. And if it’s romance you’re after, how about retiring to Segreto for a VIP drinks reception afterwards? We’re sure nobody will ask you to explain the story.

Let rip at a karaoke bar

Souk Madinat is reverberating with the sound of power ballads sung by amateurs at a new karaoke bar. K Lounge is an upscale spot that’s just opened. There are no sticky booklets filled with sheets of song titles here; each of K Lounge’s ten tables comes with an iPad offering more than 50,000 song choices. Celebrate at Blue Marlin

Richy Ahmed, the British DJ-producer and Hot Natured stalwart performs at Blue Marlin. He’s Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE’s ambassador and it’s because of the kind of line-up the club boasts this month that he agreed to take the position. “I was one of the original DJs that played there, three years ago, so the collaboration came naturally. There’s a synergy between Blue Marlin Ibiza and myself. I like the style of music the venue plays and we share a similar ethos. Art Department perform alongside Ahmed. Canadians Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow are the DJ-producer duo behind one of the decade’s best electronic albums, 2011’s The Drawing Board. The follow up Natural Selection firmly established the pair as one of dance music’s most exciting outfits. But with Glasgow recently announcing plans to go solo, this may be your last chance to see the duo together.

Groove On The Grass

Firm believers that “all good music should tell a story”, Tale Of Us lads Matteo Milleri and Karm Conte have continued to chalk up more impressive chapters in their careers since their last visit to the UAE a year ago. In the past few months alone, the producers known for their beautifully emotive music have remixed output from Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman moniker, delivered an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1, hit up Miami and California for the Winter Music Conference and Coachella festival respectively, and turned out a remix of Barnt’s Cherry Red, along with Recondite.

The Berlin-based Milanese duo return to Dubai this weekend for the Groove On The Grass season closing party, with their appearance for the GOTG crew last April still talked about. If you missed them that time round, don’t make the same mistake twice. With an eagerly-awaited album due this summer, the lads will no doubt roadtest a few tracks from it here in Dubai, too.
