Bisma Eight is not your typical hotel in Ubud. They use the term, Modern Tropical to describe their property. This explains the ultra-chic and minimalist look that is combined with traditional Balinese craftsmanship. You can see it in the contemporary teak wood furniture, ikat pillows, woven jute rugs that are all produced in Ubud. The hotels consist of 38 spacious suites that are divided into three categories. We especially love their sungkai wood partition that separates the bed and living area. Not to mention, their Japanese-inspired soaking tub made from Cedar Wood. How they play with various woods and create juxtaposition with raw concrete, steel and glass and then complete the look with lush surroundings is amazing. KATAMAMA
If you’re looking for the new IT place in Bali, then Katamama Hotel is that place. From the company that brought us Potato Head, Katamama offers the guest a chance to experience real luxury and Indonesian culture through a contemporary context. Straight on, the more than 1 million hand-pressed Balinese brick used in the façade catches our attention. Then they add the teak flooring, hand-made tiles from Java and terrazzo to complete the look. Simply stunning. It should feel Balinese, but modern at the same time. The main concept is actually the ‘modern’ architecture of 60s and 70s. It’s very geometrical,” says Andra Matin, the architect.
