Love that Old World vintage as much as your favourite New World red? If you have no idea what that means, but are curious to know more, then The Oberoi, Gurgaon and La Cave have the perfect solution. The two teams are joining forces by hosting artisanal wine makers from 8 countries and showcasing 100 premium wine labels along with curated masterclasses all through this weekend for an event titled The Fine Wine Affair.

WHAT IS IT

The 3-day programme intends to be informative as well as engaging for budding wine enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs alike. The Fine Wine Affair celebrates expert growers from different countries, who will pour and present their finest wines in interactive learning sessions accompanied by an exquisite culinary showcase – all at a quaint location surrounding the hotel’s main waterbody. The 100 labels being featured at the theatre will include premium selections from the US, Italy, France, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

Of course, there’s a plethora of wine-centric activities including Classes With The Masters by prestigious wine houses being flown in from around the world. We are told names such as Marchesi de Barolo, Castello Banfi and Marchesi de Frescobaldi will be conducting expert sessions on wine evaluation and ideal gourmet pairings. Watch out for the artisan square, which will revolve around key interactions with people behind the labels of award-winning producers through Grand Tastings. You can also sign up for guided sessions, conducted by The Oberoi Patisserie Delicatessen and called Santé, focussed on creating the perfect cheese board paired with exquisite French wines, gourmet butter, homemade baguettes and macarons in signature flavours.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND

Emerged and Arrived will help you understand new world wines from Australia and New Zealand paired with the aforementioned countries’ gourmet produce, so Para La Buena Salud will showcase Latin American highlights including the perfect combination of ceviche and wine along with the traditional confection of Alfajores. Stars and Stripes will witness the New York Cheesecake, Californian walnuts and almonds, Californian grapes, Washington apples, pears from the United States of America to the famous apple pie that will be paired with wines from the county of Sonoma and the valleys of Napa, Columbia and Willamette.

Italian wines will be paired with antipasti, premium olives, Prosciutto di San Daniele ham and a special tasting of regional extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegar aged for 12 and 24 years from the gastronomic centre in Saluti. And if that’s not enough, the hotel’s resident sommelier Rakesh Awaghade will pair four wines over the course of 20 minutes to teach you how to pick a winning wine for your next dinner party in the Cellar Door Experience session.
