Core undergraduate programmes are delivered in Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. In addition there are eight popular taught Masters programmes.Overall purpose of the job:To provide high level administrative support to the Heads of two/three of the School’s Research and Resource Groups.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• To provide high level administrative support to the Head/s of Research and Resource Group/s/

• To undertake the following activities:

o booking of travel and accommodation for staff and students

o administrative and secretarial support required for the organisation of conferences and short courses including taking registration payments, organising accommodation for attendees and, where required, liaising with external bodies

o the scheduling of Performance Development Reviews for staff in the Research and Resource Group/s

o raising requisitions for travel, consumables and equipment

o booking rooms and venues for meetings

o All other administrative support activities required by the Head/s of Research and

o Resource Groups, including:

• organising courier shipments

• making arrangements for meetings and visits

• arranging catering and other refreshments for meetings

• dealing with enquiries, in person, through electronic mail and by telephone, including passing on relevant messages where required

• word processing, copy typing and production of documents where required

• assisting with the maintenance of School research web pages

• collecting and delivering confidential documents for staff when required

• To provide secretarial support to the Head/s of Group including confirming dates for meetings, agreeing and circulating agenda, minutes and papers, taking minutes

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Photocopying and binding of documents to meet the deadlines set by individual members of staff, drawing the attention of staff to the requirements of the Copyright Licence Agreement, arranging maintenance of equipment and reporting breakdown of equipment

• Assisting with the organisation of school events as and when required

• Diary management for academic staff as and when required and at the discretion of Head/s of Research and Resource Group

• Assisting with the setting up of interview panels for academic posts if required

• To provide cover for the duties of other administrative staff working in the team during times of absence

• Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

You will be able to provide evidence of the following:

• Good literacy and numeracy skills, with proven clerical/administrative experience involving a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Good time-management and organisational skills, with previous experience of working with multiple demands. An ability to prioritise appropriately.

• Proficiency in use of software appropriate to the work of the office, such as MS software: Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access.

• The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team.

• The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, staff and external enquirers, both orally and in writing.

• The ability to make appropriate use of his/her own initiative.

• Good interpersonal skills, with a willingness to undertake training as required.

• An understanding of equal opportunities issues.

Skilled Maintenance Operatives

We are recruiting 3 Skilled Maintenance Operatives to join the Maintenance team in Manchester. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, these roles will support in looking after all aspects of repairs and maintenance of the Company’s property portfolio.
The successful candidates will be responsible, through the Maintenance Supervisor, for the delivery of maintenance services and processes that support the operation, setting and ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational environment for our employees and customers across all of our properties. You will be part of a team creating a world class vision in facility maintenance.
The successful candidate will be a flexible team player, have excellent communication skills, a strong customer service approach and able to deliver consistent results. You should have previous experience in either Plumbing/HVAC/M & E/Electrical and have achieved NVQ Level 2 qualifications in one of these fields. Any other experience such as joinery skills/painting would be welcome. This role is 37.5 hours per week covering the core operational hours. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in an on call rota and overtime when needed.

The Homebuilding sector has recognised a gap of workers in New home building trades and is willing to look at recruiting customers with a different employment background/ up-skill those with no experience but relevant education – this is a Pilot, if it shows a worthwhile success with enough applicants it will continue as more workers in the home building trade is needed to meet demand.
