1. TO ENTER: No purchase necessary to enter. Watch “Maury” on WGN-TV on 11/17, 11/19, 11/20, and 11/21/14 between 3pm-4pm Central Time (CT). Look for the “Maury word of the day” graphic to appear on screen. When the “Maury word of the day” appears on the screen, make a note of it. Then, there are two ways to enter:
A. TEXT MESSAGING: Send a text message to 97999 with that day’s “Maury word of the day” in the body of the message within 24 hours of the announcement of the “Maury word of the day.” All entrants must have a text messaging system with two-way capable handset and digital service in order to enter the Sweepstakes using the text message method. Entrants will be sent a text message to confirm entry into the Sweepstakes. Entrants entering by text will be charged standard text messaging rates for text messages sent and received from their handset according to the terms and conditions in their wireless calling plans. Text messaging and wireless service are not available in all areas. Enter as often as you wish.
B. ONLINE: To enter, log on to wgntv.com/contests and click on the “See The Maury Povich Show” sweepstakes logo, type in the “Maury word of the day” and complete the registration form within 24 hours of the announcement of the “Maury word of the day.” Entrants must use their own names. Enter as often as you wish.
Entries become the property of WGN and will not be returned. WGN is not responsible for lost, incomplete, damaged, illegible, late, or misdirected entries, or for errors in mechanical transmission, technical or wireless difficulties or inability to transmit Internet or text entries. If the keyword does not appear due to a technical glitch, preempted programming or breaking news, WGN reserves the right to cancel or extend the Sweepstakes. Any entry without the proper keyword will be disqualified.
2. ENTRY DEADLINE: The Sweepstakes runs from Monday, November 17, 2014 from 3pm CST through Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 4pm CST (minus Tuesday, November 18 due to special news programming.) For each word of the day, entrants will have 24 hours from the time the word of the day is displayed to submit an entry with the correct word.
3. SELECTION OF WINNERS: All entries will be combined into a single entry pool. On Monday, November 24, 2014 one (1) entry will be drawn randomly from all entries and be deemed the Grand Prize Winner if the entry selected contains one of the correct words of the day and was submitted within 24 hours of the announcement of that word of the day. If the first entry that is drawn for the Grand Prize Winner does not meet the above criteria, entries will continue to be randomly drawn until a correct entry is selected and the Grand Prize is awarded. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. The Winner will be notified within 48 hours, subject to eligibility verification. If the Winner does not come forward or cannot be found within 48 hours of notification via email or phone or is otherwise found to be ineligible, then another Winner shall be chosen in a second random drawing from all remaining eligible entries from that day. Entrants agree that WGN-TV has the sole right to determine the winner of the Sweepstakes and all matters or disputes arising from the Sweepstakes and that its determination is final and binding. Only one prize will be awarded per household.
4. THE PRIZE: There will be one (1) prize (“Prize”) awarded to the Grand Prize Winner. Prize consist of a trip (“Trip”) for Winner and one (1) guest (“Guest”) to Connecticut to attend a live taping of The Maury Show (“Event”). Trip consists of the following elements: roundtrip coach class air transportation for Winner and Guest from a major commercial airport near Winner’s residence (as determined in the sole discretion of Sponsor and Prize Supplier) to a major commercial airport near Connecticut; standard hotel accommodations for two (2) nights (double occupancy), as determined in the sole discretion of Sponsor and Prize Supplier; two (2) tickets for Winner and Guest to the Event (“Tickets”), located at The Rich Forum Theater, 307 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06091. The Prize will be forfeited if the Grand Prize Winner fails to claim Prize by deadline, fails to execute the prepared forms of release and waiver, or if the selected winner is not eligible in accordance with these rules. Except as otherwise provided below, Prizes are not assignable, transferable or redeemable for cash. Federal, state and local taxes, if any, are the responsibility of the winner, who will receive a 1099 tax form reflecting the actual value of the prize. Approximate retail value is $800.
All details of Prize will be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. Grand Prize Winner must be able to travel on dates designated by Sponsor and/or Prize Supplier. The Trip awarded must be taken within dates provided by Sponsor and/or Prize Supplier or the Prize will be forfeited. Travel arrangements must be made through NBC Universal Media, LLC, (“Prize Supplier”) as instructed by Sponsor, on a carrier determined by Prize Supplier. Certain travel restrictions and blackout dates may apply. Grand Prize Winner and Guest must travel together on the same itinerary, including the same departure date, destination and return date, and must have valid travel documents (e.g., valid government issued photo ID and/or passport) prior to departure, and failure to do so will result in forfeiture of Prize. Neither Sponsor nor Prize Supplier will replace any lost or stolen tickets, travel vouchers or certificates. Once travel commences, no unscheduled stopovers are permitted; if an unscheduled stopover occurs, full fare will be charged from stopover point for the remaining segments, including return, of the Trip. Neither Sponsor nor Prize Supplier is liable for any expenses incurred as a consequence of flight cancellation/delay. Trip may not be combined with any other offer and travel may not qualify for frequent flyer miles. All travel and lodging will be at the risk of Grand Prize Winner and Guest. Grand Prize Winner is solely responsible for all expenses and costs associated with acceptance and/or use of Prize not specifically stated herein as being awarded, including, without limitation any and all taxes and other expenses, costs, or fees associated with the acceptance and/or use of Prize, travel insurance, ground transportation (other than as described above), security and airport fees, taxes, insurance, gasoline, meals, gratuities, and souvenirs. Sponsor shall have the right, but not the obligation, to make any deductions and withholdings that Sponsor deems necessary or desirable under applicable federal, state and local tax laws, rules, regulations, codes or ordinances.
Tickets to the Event are transferable and have no blackout dates. Tickets will be valid from one (1) year from November 22, 2014. Please note: (i) Tickets are subject to Event production schedule dates and availability and (ii) audience members must be at least 21 years of age. NO EXCEPTIONS. Audience members may be required to execute Appearance Releases.
Sponsor and Prize Supplier shall have no responsibility or liability for cancellations, delays, or any other change by any company or person providing any element of Prize due to reasons beyond their control, and are not responsible or liable for any expenses incurred as a consequence thereof. Date and/or time of Event is subject to change. Event is subject to cancellation. If Grand Prize Winner chooses to attend the Trip or Event with no Guest, the remaining elements of Prize shall constitute full satisfaction of Sponsor’s Prize obligation to Grand Prize Winner and no additional compensation will be awarded. Guest, if any, may be required to execute and return releases of liability and, where legal, publicity releases (collectively, “Guest Documents”).
5. ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:
a. This Sweepstakes is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Employees of WGN-TV and Tribune Media Company (“Sweepstakes Sponsors”), The Maury Show, and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and advertising/promotion agencies are not eligible to participate.
b. Entrants must be legal residents of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, McHenry or Will counties in Illinois, and Jasper, LaPorte, Lake, Newton or Porter Counties in Indiana who are 21 years or older at the time of entry.
c. Winners who have won a prize from WGN-TV since April 17, 2014 are ineligible and will be disqualified.
6. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
a. Use of winner’s name: By entering, each entrant grants permission, without further compensation, to the Sponsor, its agents and licensees, to use the entrant’s name, voice, photograph, likeness and biographical material for promotional purposes in connection with the Sweepstakes.
b. Execution of Affidavit and Release: By entering, each entrant agrees that if selected as the winner, he/she will sign a release and waiver of liability. The prize will be forfeited and awarded to another entrant if the winner does not execute the prepared form of release and waiver within thirty days of the Sweepstakes, or if the selected winner is not eligible in accordance with these rules.
c. Release of Liability: By entering, entrants agree to release Sponsor, NBCUniversal Media, LLC, and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates and partners from any claim, loss, liability, damage or injury of any kind arising from their participation in the Sweepstakes, or their receipt or use of the Sweepstakes prize, and any Sweepstakes-related travel or activity.
d. Prize Substitutions: No substitute prizes are available; however, Sponsor and Prize Supplier may, at their discretion, substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Except as otherwise expressly provided in these rules, Prizes are non-transferable and may not be redeemed for cash. If the Prize or any prize element becomes unavailable for any reason, WGN-TV reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable value.
7. INTERNET/FORCE MAJEURE: If for any reason, this Sweepstakes is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, tampering, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause which corrupts or threatens the administration, security or integrity of the Sweepstakes, WGN-TV reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate or suspend the Sweepstakes or any portion of the Sweepstakes. ANY ATTEMPT TO DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE FAIR AND LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS SWEEPSTAKES WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE SWEEPSTAKES. Information submitted in Internet entries, including entrant’s name, address, e-mail address, etc, shall become the property of WGN-TV, and may be used by WGN-TV for marketing or promotional purposes. Sweepstakes shall be governed and enforced pursuant to Illinois law, excluding choice of law provisions.
