A woman’s body discovered on Friday in Indiana was that of former Des Plaines resident Cathryn McGill who was swept away by floodwaters more than two months ago, officials said today.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner determined that the body found near the Pike and Daviess County line yesterday was identified as McGill.
An autopsy determined that the woman’s cause of death was drowing, Indiana Conservation Officer Mike Keller said in a press release.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said that on Dec. 29, McGill, 31, was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her husband, Adam McGill, when he tried to navigate floodwater in the state’s southwestern corner.
Hunters saw the truck get swept off the road, and while they were able to rescue Adam McGill, Cathryn McGill was gone.
A spokesman for the agency said that at 1:45 p.m. Friday, a resident found the woman’s body Friday afternoon lying on top of corn stalk debris near the mouth of a creek that was part of the initial search area.
