The two-hour show will revolve like a Lazy Susan around the things Dave has turned us all on to: roots music, tunes off the beaten path, supper club sounds, backroads travel, tiki culture, world music, old diners, rhythm and blues and Merle Haggard. Expect lots of guests and in-studio artists from all parts of Chicago.

He wrote and co-produced the WTTW-Channel 11 PBS special “The Staple Singers and the Civil Rights Movement,” nominated for a 2001-02 Chicago Emmy for Outstanding achievement for a Documentary Program—Cultural Significance.
He is the author of “The Supper Club Book (A Celebration of a Midwest Tradition, foreword by Garrison Keillor), published 2013 by Chicago Review Press. His collection of Sun-Times travel columns, “Ticket To Everywhere,” was published in 2000 by Lake Claremont Press. He was lead writer for “Farm Aid: Song for America” (Rodale Press, 2005) which commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Willie Nelson inspired effort.
His next book on soul food and the civil rights movement will be published October, 2015 by Chicago Review Press.
For the past 22 years Hoekstra has written a baseball column for the Midwest League’s Kane County Cougars in Geneva, Ill. and the best of those columns were compiled in “Cougars, Snappers and Loons (Oh My!) (Can’t Miss Press, 2009)
