It’s no surprise to most Wake students when they step out of their dorm to gray skies; a morning rain has become a staple element of the ever-changing weather that seems to exist daily in Winston. Now that winter is approaching there’s no better time to prepare for the worst of the weather. But what seems like a hassle, actually opens up endless opportunities for the student fashionista to rev up her wardrobe. Wake Forest’s campus is the perfect setting to flaunt a chic slicker or flash your trendiest rain boots. So if you’re seeking something new and fashion-forward, here are my current recommendations:

The Trenchcoat

Go old school and purchase a trench coat. The long length makes for superb coverage of any clothing without compromising style. Channel your inner Karlie Kloss and check out this trench coat from Ralph Lauren–a beige trenchcoat will become your fashion staple. For a more casual jacket with the perfect amount of flair try a monogrammed windbreaker. Etsy has a wide selection of colors and styles to suit everyone’s preference.

Short Rain Boots

Jeffrey Campbell’s ‘Stormy’ Chelsea Boot in Glitter Multi

Take a twist on the classic tall design by buying a pair of short rain booties. This shorter style is excellent for keeping cool in the warmer weather while protecting your feet from mud or deep puddles. A great option is Hunter’s very own ‘Original Short Rain Boot,’ which comes in an array of colors. But the more adventurous gal will adore Jeffrey Campbell’s ‘Stormy’ Chelsea Boot in Glitter Multi.

A Fun Bubble Umbrella

Nervous about damaging a cute suede skirt or your tote-turned-backpack on your way to class? Don’t sacrifice your OOTD and use a clear or printed bubble umbrella (channeling Gossip Girl’s Serena and Blair!). Purchase this one for only $18.99 from Target. Plain, black umbrellas are also a great choice–they’re sophisticated, match any ensemble, and easy to find at any store.

But let’s not forget about hair frizz…

Whether you are flaunting your chic rain gear outside or lucky to stay dry indoors the lingering post-rainstorm humidity can make for some troublesome hair frizz. The smart solution? Preparing your locks with a moisturizing product, such as a deep conditioner or leave-in oil. Both of these items make for hydrated hair, which is less likely to absorb the precipitation in the air. One of my personal favorites is Aussie’s 3-Minute Miracle Moist, but if you’re looking to splurge, I highly suggest investing in the original Moroccan Oil.

From thunder and lighting to a light drizzle these can all be great options for showing off your personal style in the midst of bad weather!
