Now that you’re older and more independent, New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to push your personal style boundaries. Experimenting with different and new trends has always been one of my favorite pastimes, especially around the holidays when new things are finding their home in my closet. Here are 5 exciting ways to ring in the New Year and start off 2016 on a great foot.

Sequin Blazers:

Regardless of where you are in the world, it’s most likely going to be chilly out. Instead of the usual sequin dress, pair a sequin blazer with a casual tee or crop top. With this, you’ll also have the option of wearing it with your favorite pair or pants or striking skirt. It adds sparkle to a classic outfit, which will make you stand out at a crowded party.

Metallic Pants:

These pants are a great way to fend off the cold while also looking like a rockstar. You can dress them as up or as down as you like. For a casual look, choose a simple loose shirt. If you’re looking for something more lavish, mix metallics with prints (or even more metallics)! Mixing textures is one of the most effective ways to show you have style.

Colorful Fur:

This one is for my Carrie Bradshaw wannabes. Though you may not be running down the snow-powdered streets of New York, you can still make a statement wherever you go. Faux fur has made a major comeback in recent years, and designers have become much more experimental with their patterning and hues. Since the colored fur is so popular, you don’t have to roll out the big bucks. Retailers, like Target and Forever21 are stocking up on their own take of the trend. Don’t feel constrained to just fur coats either! Fur scarves and detachable fur collars are on every fashionista’s wish list this year. These teams scream glamour and are perfect for a night on the town.

Statement Maxi Skirts :

A strict dress code in high school most definitely taught me the power of the maxi skirt. These pieces prove that you don’t need to show a lot of leg to be sexy. Like dresses, maxi skirts come in a variety of cuts that can suit your body type. In order to avoid being swallowed up by your skirt, Lauren Conrad notes that the “shorter you are, the slimmer the skirt should be to avoid an overbearing appearance.” Read more about how to pick the perfect skirt for your body shape on her blog!

While I haven’t been brave enough to try this yet, New Year’s Eve might just be the perfect opportunity. We’ve seen it spring up everywhere on Instagram, from celebrity bloggers to hair colorists. With this look, you can go as subtle or as bold as you like. Just make sure you do it correctly! The Fox and the Hair suggest the best way to go about this is mixing your favorite glitter with clear hair gel. Check out this how-to video here! This way, you can shine from head to toe!
