Church Lane will close to traffic from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday as the Westport Weston Family Y takes to the street for an old-fashioned block party to celebrate the organization’s 90th anniversary.
According to Y officials, the free event is open to the public, and activities planned are: three bounce houses, face painting, a magician, balloon sculpture, music, light snacks and a display of vintage cars. Also scheduled is a special appearance by WWE Hall of Fame wrestling champ Mick Foley and a performance by the Y’s Showtime Exhibition Gymnastics team.
In addition, there will be a pep rally for the 200-member Water Rat swim team, plus an afternoon tea for adults served in the Y’s Bresslin Room.
Y spokesman Scott Smith noted that at 5:30 p.m., “We’ll have a group sing-along of ‘Happy Birthday, Family Y’ and offer cake and a beverage to our guests.”
