Between July 30 th and August 4 th , the West Nipissing Police Service logged 163 calls for service. Among those were 3 assaults, 10 theft, 4 Motor vehicle collisions, and 1 break and enter.
On July 30 th an Arthur Street resident contacted the police to report that he was the victim of a theft. The complainant informed police that culprit(s) had stolen his boat motor. The motor is described as an older model 15 HP Johnson white in color. It was stolen from the owner’s boat house situated along the lower Sturgeon River, between July 28 th and 30 th .
On August 1 st a former Sturgeon Falls resident contacted the West Nipissing Police Service to report that he had ordered a laptop over the internet and that the computer was delivered in Sturgeon Falls however he did not receive it. The complainant alleges that an unknown culprit signed for the computer and stole it. Police are investigating the theft.
On August 1 st , police responded to a complaint of an assault. Upon speaking with the victim police learned that an altercation occurred at the complainant’s residence. A couple of days prior to calling police, the victim’s cousin attended the residence at which a verbal argument took place. The situation quickly escalated into pushing and shoving and the victim was knocked to the ground. When he fell the victim suffered a broken wrist. The following day the suspect returned to the victim’s residence at which time the arguing continued, this time the victim was thrown to the ground choked and threatened. A 36 year old Sturgeon Falls man now faces charges a number of criminal charges including assault causing bodily harm.
On August 2 nd the police received a theft complaint from a local business owner. The police were informed that one of the employees had been stealing money from the business. A 37 year old Sturgeon Falls man has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
On August 2 nd a Nipissing Street resident contacted the police to report that a break, enter and theft had occurred at his residence while he was away. Police responded to the complaint and learned that the complainant was away from his residence but had a friend watching his apartment. During the complainant’s absence an acquaintance entered the home without permission or authorization. Once inside the man took prescription medication and left the home. A 39 year old Sturgeon Falls man now faces charges of, Break, enter and theft and breach of Probation.
On August 4 th the West Nipissing Police Service responded to a complaint of an abandoned motor vehicle on Quesnel Road. The complainant advised police that the vehicle had sustained damage and that two males were seen running from the vehicle. Police attended the area and discovered that the vehicle had been stolen in the North Bay area. Police investigation lead them to arrest two men in the area, these men were found to be in possession of small amount of marijuana and brass knuckles. An 18 year old male now face charges of possession of controlled, unauthorized possession of a weapon, drive no license and fail to remain at the scene of an accident. The 17 year old male youth faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
The West Nipissing Police have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with a variety of crimes perpetrated in the Verner area over the last couple of weeks. On July 24 th a pharmacy was entered by smashing the front door window which gave the culprits access to the building, they left the premises as the alarm system sounded. On July 29 th the same accused forced their way into a financial institution causing damage to the security gates. On July 30 th police learned that the same individuals were responsible for uttering a forged prescription for narcotics. On August 4 th the two individuals, a 42 year old female and 36 year old male both residing in the Verner area were arrested. They now face charges of Break and Enter, Mischief under $5000, using a forged document, and theft under $5000. Both were held in custody and are scheduled to appear for bail.
