Farm-to-Trumbull dates announced
Trumbull’s Parallel Post is hosting its third annual three-part culinary dining series, Farm-to-Trumbull, commencing June 25, 7 p.m., 180 Hawley Lane, Trumbull. The event is designed to provide an intimate experience for 30 guests led by: Dean James Max, chef; Chris Molyneux, executive chef; and Erik Waybright, chef de cuisine. Martha Stewart and Chef Cora headline Travelers Championship
Hartford-based The Travelers Championship’s 2015 Women’s Day Breakfast is featuring Martha Stewart, entrepreneur, and Cat Cora, celebrity chef, as its headliners, June 25, TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. The seventh annual event benefits tournament charities, including Connecticut’s The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp serving children with serious illnesses. Secrest hired as campaign manager
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch’s re-election campaign appointed Maryli Secrest as campaign manager. Secrest has worked in state government and politics for nearly a decade, most recently serving as the campaign manager for U.S. Rep. Jim Himes’ successful re-election campaign. She also worked for the city of Bridgeport’s Conservation Corps 2009 and the Citizens Campaign for the Environment, an advocacy group that engages citizens on the importantance of environmental protection, from 2007-2009.
Avison Young adds to team
Toronto-based Avison Young, a commercial real estate firm, appointed Alison Luisi to the firm’s Norwalk office. Luisi, who joins the capital markets team as an associate, is responsible for working with clients on investment sales and brokerage activities across various property types.
Luisi previously worked in investment banking at VTB Capital, where she managed a portfolio of clients that actively traded in emerging market securities.
HealthPlanOne expands board
HealthPlanOne, an Internet marketing and member acquisition company serving the health care industry, appointed Richard J. Fernandes to its board of directors. Fernandes is currently a director and former president of Affinion Group, a $1.2 billion loyalty and marketing services company. He is an adjunct professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and the owner and chairman of Only Good News LLC, a website that distributes positive news stories and videos to consumers.
Norwalk summer concert kicks off
Stamford’s First County Bank is kicking off its seventh consecutive summer concert series, commencing with a classic car show and beach cruise, June 24, 6 p.m., 69 Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk and continuing every Wednesday through Sept. 2. The concert series typically attracts 1,000-1,500 participants. First County’s participation ensures that all 11 concerts remain free to the public. Ann’s Place appoints new board member
Danbury-based Ann’s Place, a provider of support to people suffering from cancer and their loved ones, appointed Paula Boa Sousa to its board. Sousa is a principal with Danbury law firm Collins Hannafin PC, where she practices in the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts, probate and elder law.
She is a graduate of Fairfield University and earned her J.D. with a tax law certificate from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
WHCC hosts its ‘World of Colors’ celebration
The World Heritage Cultural Center, soon to open its office at 155 Main St., Danbury, is arriving in its new home with a pre-opening international “World of Colors” celebration. The free, multi-ethnic, multi-arts concert of music and dance is Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., CityCenter Danbury Green at Ives Street. More than 20 countries are being represented on the stage, hosted by Fox TV’s Kelly Wright, radio personality Cindy Vero and actor/filmmakers Shetal Shah and Victor Cruz.
The center’s mission is to make a positive impact through knowledge and charity by creating a common ground where any culture can celebrate its lifestyles through art and food.
Fairfield Museum announces photo show winners
The Fairfield Museum and History Center announced Kate Eisemann of Fairfield as the grand prizewinner of the seventh annual IMAGES juried photography show, chosen from more than 800 submissions from Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Hannah Gelnaw of New Canaan was named the student grand prizewinner for her photograph, “American Summer” taken in Block Island. The show is on display through July 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, 370 Beach Road, Fairfield.
United Way distributes 200,000 books
United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC), an organization with locations in Danbury, New Milford and Stamford that strives to ensure children are prepared for schooling, is distributing its 200,000th book to children under age 5 in 10 communities through the Imagination Library program. The early literacy program provides a new book per month to each enrolled child from birth to age 5 at no cost to families. By the time a child is ready to enter kindergarten, he or she has a personal library of books.
Since Imagination Library’s inception in Western Connecticut in 2008, more than 9,000 children from 10 towns have received 200,000 books through the program. The UWWC Imagination Library program is available in Bethel, Bridgewater, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Stamford, Warren and Washington.
William B. Meyer Inc. helps ‘Stamp Out Hunger’
Stratford-based William B. Meyer Inc., a moving and storage company, donated a trailer, a ramp and packing cartons to Operation Hope of Fairfield. The donation was to help package and deliver food collected from the U.S. Postal Service’s annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive held May 9. The company’s office and commercial moving group also donated the use of a trailer for the Saturday USPS carrier collections.
Operation Hope is an organization that addresses the needs for food and shelter, in addition to offering long-term solutions to hunger and homelessness.
Picture That’s latest art consulting project
Stamford-based Picture That LLC, an art-consulting firm, has undertaken the art project for the new Regional Hospice and Comfort Care Center for Comfort Care and Healing in Danbury. The 36,000-square-foot facility is expected to care for more than 1,000 patients, many of them children, during its first year of operation. Picture That will select and acquire, frame and install art for the facility’s 12 private suites, lounges, living rooms and library.
