Advocate Brokerage and Koslowsky earn top honors
Scarsdale-based Advocate Brokerage and Denise Koslowsky, were named among the insurance industry’s elite by the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, an executive protection insurance provider. Chubb named Advocate Brokerage a “Cornerstone Elite Agency,” a distinction shared by fewer than 10 percent of the 8,500 independent agents and brokers who work with Chubb.
Koslowsky was named to the leadership forum for Chubb and invited to participate in its annual meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., to which only the top 50 Chubb agents nationwide are invited.
Sheth and Nissirios join Crystal Run Healthcare
Crystal Run Healthcare is welcoming Viral Sheth and Themistoklis Nissirios, both formerly of Orange Cardiology, to its multispecialty group medical practice. Orange Cardiology provides cardiovascular care for the residents of Goshen and surrounding communities and is the latest practice to join Crystal Run. Sheth is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, lipidology and internal medicine. He holds his medical degree from Albany Medical College.
Nissirios is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, RPVI, level II cardiac CTA and internal medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, N.J.
White Plains Hospital recognized for achievements
White Plains Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s success ensuring that stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to research-based guidelines based on scientific evidence. This year marks the ninth consecutive year that White Plains Hospital has been recognized with this quality achievement award.
White Plains Hospital also received the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll for meeting stroke quality measures that reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
O’Brien named president of NAIRO
White Plains-based AliCare Medical Management, a provider of clinically based care-management programs and a member of the Amalgamated Family of Companies, announced that Julie O’Brien, president of AMM, was named president of the National Association of Independent Review Organizations, a collaborative group of companies that provide independent medical reviews, which help payers and medical managers to improve the quality of care, medical utilization and patient safety. She will serve as NAIRO president for a two-year term.
Prior to joining AMM, O’Brien served as director of clinical services for Health Dialog, where she was responsible for clinical operations. She is a registered nurse and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in business with a specialty in health care administration.
Miller named president of the year
Heather Miller, president of the Rotary Club of White Plains, an organization of business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, was named “President of the Year 2014-2015” by the Rotary District 7230. Miller has succeeded in starting new projects, including helping the homeless in White Plains with a Thanksgiving food drive, a sandwich-making event and a dining event for homeless families; a Veterans’ Day program to recognize 20 Rotarians who are veterans; World Polio Day activities in October 2014; and support for the fight against Ebola, delivering a $1,000 grant to the Rotary Club of Monrovia, Liberia.
GOVAC honors Orange Regional emergency department
Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps (GOVAC) honored Middletown-based Orange Regional Medical Center’s emergency department at its annual appreciation celebration. Annually, GOVAC recognizes a person or group that has helped it to better serve the community. All four members of the emergency department received awards for their dedication to the community.
Molinski joins Orange County Trust
Middletown-based Orange County Trust Co. appointed Danielle Molinski as a branch manager at Orange Bank and Trust Co., a division of Orange County Trust Co. Molinski’s hire supports the firm’s plans to expand into Westchester County.
Molinski joins the bank from Hudson Valley Bank, where she most recently served as assistant branch manager, responsible for overseeing the daily operations, managing her branch staff and providing customer service.
Molinski holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from SUNY Purchase.
Orange Regional Medical Center earns grade ‘A’
Middletown-based Orange Regional Medical Center was recognized for its dedication to patient safety by the Leapfrog Group and was awarded an “A” grade in this spring’s hospital safety scores. Orange Regional joins the top 31 percent of the 2,500 hospitals in the U.S. that received an “A” grade.
Phelps recognized as Imaging Center of Excellence
Sleepy Hollow’s Phelps Memorial Hospital Center’s radiology department was designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), making it one of 17 hospital radiology departments in the U.S. to have achieved this designation and the only hospital in the region.
To become a center of excellence, a facility must first have accreditation for all of the ACR-rated imaging services it provides. The radiology department performs a full spectrum of services for early detection and diagnosis of medical conditions, including bone densitometry, breast imaging, ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, nuclear medicine, angiography and diagnostic radiology.
GHVHS announces new director
Middletown-based The Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS), composed of Catskill Regional Medical Center and Orange Regional Medical Center, is promoting Bob Davison to director of budget and management reporting. Davison’s responsibilities include managing the annual operating budget and the implementation and operation of the financial reporting module for the Catskill Regional and Orange Regional Medical Centers.
Davison holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Mount Saint Mary College and a master’s degree in business administration from Marist College.
Orange Regional nominated in competition
Middletown-based Orange Regional Medical Center is a contestant in Soliant Health’s 2015 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. competition. Soliant Health is a health care staffing company in the U.S. that connects hospitals and health care providers with health care professionals. After receiving nominations for the most beautiful hospitals, a panel reviews each hospital and selects the top entries based on measures, including architectural style, photogenic properties, landscaping and distinctiveness.
Goldschmidt & Associates brokers Q1 sales deals
Scarsdale-based Goldschmidt & Associates brokered five investment sale transactions in the first three months of this year. The aggregate sales price totaled more than $50 million. The properties included 109 units and retail in walking distance to the train station in Rye; 152,000-square-foot warehouse and office, co-brokered with Kevin Langtry of CBRE, in New Rochelle; 25,000-square-foot former Flynn Boiler building spanning two acres in New Rochelle; 3,000-square-foot retail building on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers; and a 10,000-square-foot office/flex building off the Merritt Parkway in New Milford, Conn.
Girls Inc. Westchester receives grant
Girls Inc. Westchester received a $5,000 grant from Key Bank to support SMARTech, a two-week summer science camp for middle school girls. A critical part of Girl Inc.’s STEM initiative, SMARTech gives girls hands-on exposure to coding, technology and environmental science while addressing the confidence gap and support gap that creates a barrier to girls pursuing higher education and STEM careers. SMARTech runs from July 27-Aug. 7 on the campus of SUNY Purchase. Girls Inc. Westchester is now accepting applications from rising seventh and eighth grade girls in Westchester County.
Orange County Partnership names winner
Goshen-based Orange County Partnership announced that the city of Middletown economic development team has been named the partnership’s 2015 Most Valuable Player. Under the leadership of Major Joseph DeStefano, the team’s mission is to demonstrate economic excellence by developing and pursuing a strategy that is growing and changing the city’s environment. Committed to fulfilling its mission, the team has adopted an “open for business” philosophy that has repurposed the Horton Hospital Campus to attract Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and provided the climate for other projects to grow, including the Equilibrium Brewery, Clemson Brothers Brewery and other retail projects.
New board of directors at Abilities First

Hospital receives award for stroke care
NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Quality Achievement Award for the third year.
The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
“Our ‘no-wait’ emergency department has once again received this prestigious award, evidence of the outstanding quality of care our staff provides,’’ said John C. Federspiel, president of NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital. “What this means is that stroke patients who come into our hospital get the most aggressive treatment, greatly improving their chances of avoiding long-term disabilities.”
New salesperson makes first deal
KZA Realty Group’s licensed salesperson Gina Watson recently celebrated her first deal with the commercial real estate brokerage and development-consulting firm.
Watson, who obtained her associate’s degree in visual arts at Westchester Community College, began her career in real estate with KZA Realty Group in 2012 as an administrative assistant. Working directly with mentor Kathy Zamechansky, president of KZA, Watson said, “Anyone who knows Kathy knows she is one of the hardest working women out there. Her energy, vast knowledge and experience in the real estate field drew me into it and inspired me to work hard at it.”
Bleakley Platt welcomes partner
Katrine A. Beck has joined Bleakley Platt & Schmidt LLP law firm as a partner in the litigation practice group. Focusing her trial practice on general liability claims, commercial disputes and municipal law matters, Beck has successfully handled all phases of litigation in state and federal courts, including arbitrations and mediations.
The general liability component of her practice involves the defense of high-exposure cases involving construction accident claims.
Prior to joining the firm Beck was a partner at Wilson Elser and prior to that she served as an assistant corporation counsel with the New York City Law Department, Bronx Tort Division.
Leopizzo a ‘Hall of Famer’
Anthony J. Leopizzo, a private wealth adviser with Ameriprise Financial in White Plains, has earned membership in the company’s exclusive Hall of Fame.
Introduced in 1986, the Hall of Fame award is designed to recognize exceptional professionals who have achieved years of consistently high performance along with a proven commitment to financial planning and superior client service. Hall of Fame is considered a lifetime achievement award.
Fewer than 2 percent of Ameriprise financial advisers have earned the Hall of Fame distinction. Leopizzi was one of 14 advisers to achieve this status in 2014 and joins the 195 current Hall of Fame members. A 120-year-company, Ameriprise Financial has a nationwide network of 10,000 financial advisers.
Arc of Westchester receives sustainability award
Arc of Westchester received the Charles W. Brown Jr. Sustainability Award for visionary leadership and commitment to sustainability from the Westchester Green Business Challenge.
From selecting energy-efficient lighting and Energy Star certified appliances to using double-paned/tinted windows and low-VOC building materials in its headquarters, Arc of Westchester’s leadership has played an extensive role in creating a sustainable work environment for employees.
The Westchester Green Business Challenge, which began in 2009, is an annual competition among county businesses, helping them to move toward environmental sustainability and save money at the same time.
The Sustainability Award was created in memory of Charlie Brown, a visionary with a deep commitment to sustainability. He and his wife Renee built the first LEED Platinum office building in Westchester County. The company was recently WGB certified and continues to operate in the “greenest” possible manner and serves as a pillar of the community.
New look for Hall of Honor
After three years of fundraising, design, fabrication and planning, work has begun on enhancing the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.
During the recent closing, the design team of Brent Johnson Design, Split Rock Studios and Northern Light Productions are creating “an experience that will honor the sacrifices of all the men and women who sacrificed so much for our nation.”
“With this first phase, we are determined to properly recognize our Purple Heart recipients in each branch of the United States military,” said Andrew Komonchak, executive director of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. “Given the fact that the hall is a national institution we are proud that we have raised the $2 million to fund this project locally, with tremendous support from New York state Sen. William Larkin, three local foundations and private philanthropists throughout the region.”
The hall will reopen in early August.
External communications manager named
Heineken USA, headquartered in White Plains, has appointed Bjorn Trowery to its corporate relations team as external communications manager.
He joined Heineken from Toys R Us, where he most recently served as its corporate spokesman. Earlier he worked at Edelman and was the account supervisor on the Dos Equis, Trojan and Starbucks accounts.
