For the past three years, Trotter led GE Capital Real Estate in Canada, building a commercial team that focused on growing loan originations. He also oversaw initiatives to reduce and optimize GE’s equity portfolio, selling 79 office and industrial assets in Canada, according to a GE press release.

Trotter joined GE in 1990 and served on the company’s corporate audit staff. He also served in GE Capital’s consumer, commercial and real estate divisions in the U.S. and Europe. In 2008, Trotter was the chief financial officer for Europe, serving on GE’s Paris-based real estate team.

He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University School of Business in Kingston, Ontario, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Ill.

He succeeds Alec Burger, who led the North America business for seven years and was named global CEO for GE Capital Real Estate. GE Capital Real Estate will announce a new leader for lending for their Canadian operations in the coming weeks, according to the press release.

GE Capital Real Estate has an estimated $39 billion in assets and a portfolio of more than 5,000 properties, the press release said.
