Bank names mortgage specialist

SHAWN SIMMONS was appointed mortgage specialist at Ulster Savings Bank, 39 Burnett Boulevard, Poughkeepsie.

A Poughkeepsie resident, Simmons brings more than 18 years of residential lending experience to his new position.

“Along with his mortgage experience, Shawn has long-established relationships with Realtors throughout Dutchess County,” said Christopher Rosenbergen, vice president of residential mortgage lending. “These relationships allow him to place qualified mortgage candidates with Realtors that best serve their particular housing needs and desires.”

Simmons earned his New York State Mortgage Originator’s License and has maintained affiliations with local mortgage/lending associations, including the Dutchess County Association of Realtors.

He is also active with the city of Poughkeepsie Little League, serving previously as a board member and now coaching the city’s 13-15-year-old Junior League team.

Endocrinologist joins group

ANDREY MAMKIN a pediatric endocrinologist has joined Crystal Run Healthcare in Middletown. Mamkin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from CUNY Hunter College in New York City and earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Maimonides Infants & Children’s Hospital in Brooklyn and completed his fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at The Children’s Hospital at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn. Mamkin is seeing patients at the Crystal Run offices in Middletown and Rock Hill in Sullivan County.

The first pediatric endocrinologist to join Crystal Rock, Mamkin specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents ranging from newborn to age 21, with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as well as other disorders.

Elant exec elected to state group

CHRISTINE WISE-VAZQUEZ, Elant’s vice president of placement management and marketing development, has been elected the new president of the Empire State Association of Assisted Living (ESAAL).

Wise-Vazquez is the first woman to preside over the organization.

“I am honored by the great confidence that my board colleagues have given to me,” Wise-Vazquez said. “Under Jim Kane’s leadership, ESAAL has realized significant achievement. The association has advanced meaningful legislation and regulation to bring value to its membership and help ensure access to assisted living for many New Yorkers who have chosen it as a long-term care option. Today we have a tremendous opportunity to continue moving forward by cultivating a greater public awareness of how important assisted living is within the state’s long-term care system. I believe my more than 20 years of experience in health care management will be valuable when guiding ESAAL.”

Wright joins Focus Media

Bonnie Wright has been named director of business development at Goshen-based Focus Media.

Wright earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the State University of New York at New Paltz and later went on to launch Wright Communications, which she successfully operated until 2005. Most recently, she worked with the American Cancer Society as its community executive director and director of distinguished events.

“I am thrilled to join the Focus Media team,” Wright said. “This is an opportunity to further leverage my skills and experience to the benefit of businesses and organizations across the Hudson Valley. My goal is to help the firm continue its trajectory of rapid growth, both now and in the years to come.”

Accelerator receives grant

THE ORANGE COUNTY BUSINESS ACCELERATOR (OCBA) received a $125,000 grant from the New York State Business Incubator and Innovation Hot Spot Support Program, sponsored by Empire State Development. The grant was formally awarded at the recent 2013 Regional Economic Development Council Awards reception in Albany.

This was the third round of the program, in which a total of $1.25 million in operating grants was awarded to New York state incubators and innovation hot spots. OCBA was one of only 10 organizations to receive an award in the business incubator category.

“We are delighted to receive this grant,” OCBA Development Director Peter Malone said. “We have worked hard to create an environment with all of the necessary resources for startup companies to grow and thrive. With this funding from the New York State Business Incubator and Innovation Hot Spot Support Program, even more entrepreneurs and small businesses will be able to leverage our programs and services to help them find success and avoid the common pitfalls that can cause small businesses to fail.”

OCBA will use a significant portion of the grant money to establish its Summer Sand Box Program, a program designed to provide specific business training to young entrepreneurs enrolled in courses at Orange County Community College and Mount St. Mary’s College.

Partners named

ROB UNGER and DOMENICK T. DELROSSO have been appointed partners at Judelson, Giordano & Siegel (JGS), an accounting and business consulting firm in Middletown. The firm also announced JASON GIORDANO will succeed FRANK GIORDANO Jr. as the firm’s managing partner.

Giordano said his new role along with the promotions of Unger and DelRosso represent a new generation of leadership for the firm, which is rich in history.

“Rob and Domenick have distinguished themselves here with their intelligence, work ethic and integrity,” Giordano said. “I am eager to work in concert with them and the other partners as we write a new chapter of history for this great firm.”

Since joining the firm in 1996, Unger has served in several roles, including audit manager and manager of forensic accounting. He specializes in accounting and auditing, business advisory services, tax planning and preparation. He is a cum laude graduate of Marywood University, Scranton, Pa.

DelRosso joined the firm in 2003 and has served as manager of taxation. He specializes in tax planning and strategy for business and individual clients. He graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Mount St. Mary College and has a master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
