From hosting a breakfast meeting to a company’s holiday party, the Shops at Nanuet are poised to serve the diverse needs of the surrounding business community, as well as the general public.
The long-awaited opening of the project that effectively revamped the former Nanuet Mall was held Oct. 10, with grand-opening festivities throughout the weekend.
The 750,000-square-foot development is set to revitalize the area with some 50 retail, dining and entertainment options that have brought hundreds of jobs to the center off Route 59 in Nanuet, a hamlet in the town of Clarkstown.
The Shops at Nanuet is officially opened.
The latest regional project from Simon Property Group, which has its headquarters in Indianapolis, joins the company’s other local properties that include Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights, the Galleria at White Plains and The Westchester, also in White Plains.
With the opening of the first wave of businesses at the Shops at Nanuet – and as the open-air center works toward its full occupancy in early 2014 – shoppers will have the opportunity to visit new-to-market establishments ranging from J. Crew to J. Jill, Sur La Table to Paper Source, Michael Kors to Big Dog Sportswear. Other retailers include Ann Taylor, Apple Store, Coach, Banana Republic, Kay Jewelers, Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, Soma Intimates and Vera Bradley.
Shops are concentrated on a pedestrian-friendly boulevard called Fashion Drive.
Anchors Sears and Macy’s, which had remained open throughout the year-plus construction period, are joined by major tenants including Fairway market, a 12-screen Regal Cinemas (November opening) and 24 Hour Fitness (December).
On the dining front, options will include Bonefish Grill, Corner Bakery Café, P.F. Chang’s Asian Bistro, Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar, CUPS Frozen Yogurt and Patsy’s Pizzeria, among others.
Banchetto Feast, a veteran and adjacent Nanuet restaurant that went through its own renovation prior to the project’s main construction period, offers yet another dining choice along the Middletown Road side of the property.
The Nanuet Mall, a traditional indoor mall that opened in the late 1960s, was once a leading shopping destination for the region. It struggled over time with most of the mall closing in 2012 after being unable to compete with the Palisades Center, the Pyramid Management Group mega-mall that opened a few miles farther down Route 59 in the late ’90s.
