The nonprofit association SCORE Westchester will host a free forum at the White Plains Public Library Sept. 18 where four experts will share their advice about finance, marketing, law and human resources as they relate to startups and business management.

Primarily geared for business owners, executives and managers in Westchester County, the two-hour forum, “Four Pillars of Business Wisdom,” is also presented by Webster Bank. It will be led by David Fischer, founder of Solutions for Growth L.L.C. in South Salem; Gary Hirsch, business lawyer at GHirsch L.L.C. in Wilton, Conn.; Scott Herckis, financial manager at SJH Financial L.L.C. in Stamford; and Bill Gottlin, founder of Aspire HR Consulting L.L.C. in Stamford.

SCORE Westchester mentor Charles Auerbach said the program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. is “designed for people who are already in business. Its purpose is to offer unique, informative and stimulating information on four areas of business.”

Persons can register for the forum at the scorewestchester.com website.

Founded in 1964, SCORE provides mentoring by retired business persons and educational services to small business owners. The Westchester chapter offers workshops every Wednesday at 120 Bloomingdale Road in White Plains. People who want to start or are currently operating their own business can receive advice on a variety of topics ranging from Internet marketing and sales strategy to franchising and leasing commercial space.

For those who can’t attend day sessions, the organization also provides night counseling at public libraries in New Rochelle, White Plains and Katonah.

Auerbach said SCORE last year launched a boot camp or series of interactive workshops for people interested in startups. The next boot camp will begin Oct. 16 and run for five weeks at the Greenburg Town Hall. Each session will be led by a different SCORE counselor.

SCORE also guides budding entrepreneurs in developing business plans and applying for loans to finance their businesses. Auerbach said the Westchester chapter in the last seven years has helped clients in the county obtain more than $30 million in business financing, much of that through the U.S. Small Business Administration’s government-insured loan program and also through venture capital, equity financing and macro and micro loan programs.

SCORE has 350 chapters and 1,200 volunteers across the nation. In Westchester, 35 active counselors mentor business owners.
