KINSALE Community School has won the Best School Award, which is sponsored by the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD), at the BT Young Scientist Awards.

The NAPD Award for Best School was accepted by the school principal Frank McCarthy and its Young Scientist Coordinator Shaun Holly. The award is calculated on a points system based on the numbers and types of awards an individual school wins.

The NAPD represents Principals and Deputy Principals at post-primary level. The Association aims to provide a united voice nationally for Principals and Deputy Principals on issues of common concern.

Among the Kinsale Community School entries were the overall group winners, Cathy Hynes and Eve Casey, for their study on using statistical methods of people’s attitudes to the ageing workforce of the future. Their survey of 1,147 found that 63 per cent of respondents felt younger than they were, and 17 per cent felt older, with the remaining 10 per cent feeling their actual age.

“I would like to pay tribute to the students and staff at Kinsale Community School for their outstanding work. They are a great credit to the BT Young Scientist Awards and I commend them on producing a variety of outstanding projects which were show-cased at the event”, said Clive Byrne, Director of the NAPD.
