West Allotment Celtic were beaten 2-0 by Hull-based Hall Road Rangers in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase.

A misplaced pass from Allotment put James Forrester through on goal before he cooly placed the ball past Allotment goalkeeper Chris Bannon before Chris Spinks added a second goal for the away side in the second half to seal the victory.

Celtic went into the game off the back of three consecutive league defeats, while Hall Road Rangers had started in the opposite direction – winning their last three in the Northern Counties East League.

Hall Road Rangers opened the scoring in the 10th minute, when a misplaced pass was cleverly intercepted by goalscorer James Forrester. He was left one-on-one with the Allotment keeper Chris Bannon before he calmly placed the ball into the bottom right corner.

Allotment gained control of possession after going behind, however, another misplaced pass by Chris Locke allowed striker Chris Spinks to race through on goal, only to blaze the ball over the bar.

The home side began the second half brightly, with Allotment wing-back Adam Laidler testing Rangers goalkeeper Adam Stevens with a half volley that the keeper managed to palm clear with both hands.

In fortunate circumstances, Hall Road Rangers doubled their lead, in the 52nd minute. After wrestling for the ball with Rangers striker Alex Sherwood, centre-back Stuart Bramley’s challenge ricocheted kindly for Sherwood who, with time, squared the ball across the box for Chris Spinks.

After his initial shot was blocked off the line by Chris Locke, Spinks made sure of the rebound as he hit the ball low and well into the net.

Allotment kept pushing for a goal to get back into the game as, once more, Adam Laidler’s goal bound shot was headed away by a Rangers defender.

Allotment striker Stephen Young tested goalkeeper Stevens late on with a long range drive but he was unable to get the important goal they needed as the keeper parried the strike away for a corner.

After the victory, Hall Road Rangers will now face Silsden in the Second Qualifying Round in the FA Vase.

West Allotment will now focus their attention back on the league when they take on Jarrow Roofing on Tuesday night.
