85% of Moms Say They’d Feel Better if a Percentage of Their Purchases Went Back to a Cause They Support

It happens every year around this time: people feel torn between helping causes they care about and spending money on the people they love. Now, because of an innovative website called Goodshop.com, there is no need to choose between the two. Goodshop.com is an online shopping mall with over 4,000 stores that donate a percentage of virtually every purchase back to a charity or school of the shopper’s choice.

According to a proprietary, new survey conducted by Goodshop in partnership with Survey Monkey Audience, about two-thirds of American moms who shop online said they’d donate the same amount to charities or schools this year as they did last year. Yet, almost 35% of them said they feel guilty about spending money on holiday shopping instead of on helping a cause they care about, and they appear to be searching for a way to do more. In fact, a whopping 85% of survey respondents said they’d feel better about all the money spent on Holiday shopping if a percentage of their purchases went back to a cause they supported.

Goodshop.com offers a unique solution to this problem. More than 4,000 of the top retailers in the country, including Amazon, Macy’s, Target, and Staples, have teamed up with Goodshop to donate to a non-profit or school every time a supporter shops through the online portal. The user chooses from a list of more than 110,000 causes nationwide, and with every purchase made through Goodshop, a donation of up to 20% is made to their chosen cause.

“I care deeply about the well-being of animals,” said Mary Harkey of Los Angeles. “So, knowing that all of my holiday gifts will also help a dog in need because I used Goodshop, really makes me feel good about holiday shopping this year.”

The survey also shows that American moms are very willing to shop for good. In fact, 86% of moms said that if they would be very likely or somewhat likely to buy from a company that is associated with or donates to a cause, if price and quality were comparable.

“With cause donations expected to be flat this year given the current economy, Goodshop provides a simple and easy way for people to give back to their favorite cause and feel great when shopping for the Holidays,” said Scott Garell, CEO of Goodsearch.  “By simply choosing from any of our 110,000 nonprofit and school partners, cause supporters can earn much needed donations with all their Holiday purchases and get money saving coupons—all at no extra cost to them.”

To date, Goodshop, together with its sister sites including Goodsearch and Goodgames, has raised more than $10 million for non-profits and schools nationwide. That money has been used to find homes for stray dogs, clean up our oceans, feed the homeless, buy books for school libraries, fund cancer research, and much more!

*The survey was run during November 13-14, 2013 by Goodshop in partnership with SurveyMonkey. Results were collected with a 95% confidence interval and a 5% margin of error from 419 American mothers using SurveyMonkey Audience.
