1. BamBOO Outdoor Cinema Ticket GIVEAWAY!
The outdoor cinema at the back of Luxe Bar in Highgate has enjoyed a super successful first half of the summer season. Now it’s time for round two as the new program is in full swing. It’s such a lovely place to watch a film – sit back with one of Luxe Bar’s famous cocktails while enjoying either a hotly anticipated new, independent release, or an absolute classic.
It runs until 13 April and one of the program highlights includes a closing night party with an advance screening of Only Lovers Left Alive, a new vampire film by director Jim Jarmusch with tunes in the amphitheatre beforehand. We also can’t wait to see Wes Anderson’s new flick The Grand Budapest Hotel starring Ralph Fiennes and a massive supporting cast, which screens on 6 April. 2. Bianco Shines
As part of the Perth International Arts Festival, NoFit State Circus have set up the big top down at Ozone Reserve where they’ll be until the end of the Festival on 1 March.
This is a circus performance unlike any I’d been to before. From the moment you walk into the grounds you are welcomed by performers who set the scene for an intimate yet high energy show that will have you engaged for the next couple of hours. Grab a drink from the bar and mingle before heading into the tent where more snacks and drinks are available for purchase.
This is a stand up show, where the audience is invited to move around and view the performance from different angles. You will be ushered about as the acts take place around you. Yes, you will be on your feet for the duration of the show so wear comfortable shoes! Everyone else will be.
Once the performance starts you will be hooked, these guys are absolutely incredible. Expect circus acts with hoops, trapeze, ropes, trampolines, a tightwire and more. NoFit State use traditional circus mediums and take them to the next level. It’s hard to imagine how circus acts that have been around for centuries can be used to create something innovative and mind-blowing, but that’s what NoFit State have done. Everything has been thought of, even the way they move the stage and themselves about throughout the show has a level of performance to it.
With a live band playing the score, the intensity is heightened. The musicians were tireless and had a profound effect on the atmosphere inside the tent.
Bianco isn’t just about watching a show, it’s about being immersed in world class performance at every second. Warning – it may make you want to run off and join the circus.
You can see it for yourself any night from Tuesday to Sunday between now and 1 March. With general admin tickets just $59.50 (discounts for Friends of the Festival, Concession and Full Time Students under 30) this is one show you don’t want to miss. It is a licensed venue, but it is suitable for children who come along with a guardian, recommended for ages 7 and over. Head here for tickets.

3. The Art Gallery of WA Opens Late Through February
To coincide with PIAF, Fringe World and all the amazing stuff that’s happening around Northbridge right now, the Art Gallery of WA are opening their doors in the evenings until the end of this month. The current hours are 10am to 7pm from Wednesday to Monday (closed Tuesdays). These extended hours make it the perfect time to head down and check out AGWA’s latest exhibition, IMPACT.
Running now until 2 June, IMPACT showcases a series of recent acquisitions to State Art Collection comprising of works from 25 Australian and international artists. Different mediums will be covered, with a focus on video works alongside sculpture, paintings and works on paper.
Sometime just after 4pm this Saturday, Gallery-goers may chance upon a musical performance by local artist, Errol Tout. The first of AGWA’s pop-up performances across February, it’s both a musical interlude and cross-media dialogue with the Gallery space and works. We can’t tell you where in the Gallery it will be, but we are reliably informed that it will be one-off encounter well worth experiencing: an improvised piece, in a space tbd, alongside walls of art – what more could you want!

4. Vintage Collector and Vendor Call Out
There’s a new vintage festival taking place in the Swan Valley next month, The Vintage Collective Markets, and they’re on the hunt for some totally rad stallholders to participate.
They are looking for sellers of vintage goods, and also collectors who might like to display their retro goodies. You might have an old car that you’d like to show off, or a vintage bicycle (or 7) that you’ve done up.
