Paw Patrol rolled into Perth on the WA Day long weekend, bringing all 6 pups, as well as new addition Tracker, plus all their human friends. As the flocks of excited families flooded into the theatre at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre there was an electric feeling of anticipation.
This was my first time at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and I was impressed with the convenience of the venue. Parking was easy and on par with city parking prices ($16 for 2 hours). Directional signage at the venue is minimal, so I would recommend arriving early.
Upon arrival in the theatre, we found the stage was set with a huge Paw Patrol logo and the audience waited eagerly as the first scenery arrived on set.
The theme of the show currently touring Australia is a pirate adventure, and the pups and their pals certainly take you on a fun ride as they search for treasure. Both old and new Paw Patrol fans will enjoy this fast-paced and exciting show.
With the dastardly Mayor from Foggy Bottom trying to steal the treasure and several misadventures along the way for the pups, this show was a hit with all the kids.
There was an interactive component of the show with the audience helping to spot the famous Pirate Parrot and several performers coming out into the crowd. The audience was taken on an adventure with singing, dance and crazy hijinks that kept all the kids glued to the stage.
The creators of this production have put thought into the needs of their younger audience members and included a short intermission during the 1.5-hour show, allowing time for a toilet break or quick snack.
The performers were well complemented by the set and props. Portraying talking dogs on stage was accomplished with super-sized props, which the actors were able to direct around the stage whilst still being in character.
A huge screen at the back of the stage helped with scene setting. The on-stage pirate ship was a big hit, especially when it started rocking back and forward to simulate the ocean waves. There is a round of fireworks at the end that is quite loud and unexpected so if you are attending with kids that scare easily you may want to warn them.
This show was light-hearted and entertaining and certainly a great family event. The kids are still singing the theme song and acting out pirate adventures. Paw Patrol is currently touring Australia – read more here.
