Between 10am and 4pm this Sunday 26 July, the Perth Concert Hall will be overrun with market stalls featuring wares from Western Australian designers. The ethos of Made on the Left market is to only showcase items made in WA, and allow shoppers to meet the makers themselves. We decided to get a head start and meet some of the clever cats today, so it is with great pleasure that we introduce to you floral designer Lee-Anne from Floral State; Lee from Bare Botanics skincare; and abstract artist Jacquie Hughes. To top it off, we are giving away $50 to spend at the market – wowee! Read on to enter.

LEE-ANNE FROM FLORAL STATE

Introduce yourself:
Floral State was born as a means to express our creative drive whilst exploring the amazing medium of flowers. With a background in interior design, we can adopt what we already know about colour, texture and balance and translate this into producing beautiful floral designs. We can create anything from petite posies delivered to your door to large scale events where we can style and co-ordinate your blooms. Our website will be launching in August so check it out soon!

What is your design ethos?

Flowers are considered a sign of celebration and love; from births to birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and in passing. Floral States’ ethos is to use the freshest blooms to create floral pieces that make a difference to a person’s day.

What have you got planned for Made on the Left?

This is our first market stall so we will be testing the water to see how the public responds to our work and designs. We will be launching our new Posy Jars which is a petite posy in our signature amber jars. We will also have bouquets and potted orchids for sale.

Favourite Perth hangout?
It changes with the season, though would always be something we could take Lucy, our French Bulldog. At the moment we brave the weather and often head to The Leaky Tap for long blacks and puppuccinos! Lee-Anne

LEE FROM BARE BOTANICS

Introduce yourself:

My name is Lee and I created Bare Botanics 18 months ago after years of making my own skincare for myself, family and friends. Bare Botanics’ simple oils, balms and lotions are handmade in small batches using high quality nutrient and vitamin rich botanical ingredients and therapeutic essential oils, helping to maintain calm, healthy, happy skin.

What’s your design ethos?

Simple, minimalistic, clean skincare with (where possible) recyclable and reusable packaging.

What have you got planned for Made on the Left?

If you are interested in exploring a skincare regime or your face and body without the difficult to pronounce ‘what the heck is that’ ingredients on the label then Bare Botanics may have the cream, oil, balm, mask, hydrating mist or scrub for you. Or simply stop by for a chat.

Favourite Perth hangout?

I have many, Perth is now spoilt for choice in small bars, cafes and restaurants, not only in the city but north and south of the river as well, so I love to explore. Lee

JACQUIE OF JACQUIE HUGHES

Introduce yourself:
I am Jacquie Hughes, an abstract artist working under my own name.

What’s your design ethos?
I create paintings that express fluidity, motion and emotion. Each painting is created on impulse, deriving inspiration from my surroundings and each painting is allowed to grow and develop as its own individual entity. The resulting paintings are reminiscent of natural landscapes resembling coral seas, oceans and mineral deposits. I mostly work with a feminine palette and am obsessed with how yellow, pink, blue and white interact with each other to create depth and layers in the paintings.

What have you got planned for Made on the Left?
Everything is hand painted and unique, even the A2 paper paintings which look like prints but are in fact hand painted. I don’t work with prints or reproductions so once an item is sold it won’t be reproduced. This year I’ve started a small homewares collection which features hand painted tea light holders and wooden chopping boards.

Favourite Perth hangout?

When I’m in the city with the kids we always end up at Jaws followed by somewhere that sells lots of chocolate; our current favourite is Koko Black. If I’m out with friends I like to go to a new restaurant every time as there are so many great places to eat in Perth. However my favourite restaurant for a romantic night out with my husband is Rockpool Bar & Grill. Jacquie
