Perth foodies are getting into grazing in a big way. From Pinterest to Instagram, sumptuous grazing tables have been ‘grazing’ our screens for a while now, and newcomer to the scene Wattle & Crumb has a uniquely stylish, distinctively Australian take on this delicious trend. We caught up with owner Kasia Dudney to find out more about what it’s like to be in the business of feeding people.

Who is behind Wattle & Crumb?

Kasia Dudney is the grazing table magic creator with the help of her husband Reece and toddler, Matilda. We are based in Subiaco and are a family focussed on great food.

What was your lightbulb moment for starting this new business?

I actually created my first grazing table for my best friend’s bridal shower, and the joy it brought me just made so much sense. It combined all of my favourite things – food, styling, planning and providing pleasure for the people I love. I started up the business two weeks later and haven’t looked back.

How would you describe what you do?

We create grazing tables for all types of Perth events from engagement parties through to 1st birthdays. Our tables include a range of delicious food tailored to each event dependent on what is in season, styling, flower arrangements, set up and pack down. We often have requests for gluten and nut free or vegan options, which we happily accommodate!

What about Wattle & Crumb brings you joy?

I have always been a very visual person; be it vibrant food, art, clothing or blooms, I am into it! Grazing tables are the perfect embodiment of creating a beautiful and exciting culinary adventure for people.

Your Mum bakes some of the sweet treats on offer. What was your favourite treat growing up?

It doesn’t matter what anyone says, my Mum makes the best brownie in town. I have travelled all around the world and nothing has rivalled it. It is a secret recipe but I can reveal that coconut, chocolate and lots of my Mum’s magic is involved. I have tried and failed many times to replicate it but I leave it to the expert now.

What are your most popular packages?

Our standard table is the most popular that caters for 15-40 people and contains bountiful blooms. We also have a smaller brunch-style package for brides on their wedding morning which is very popular. This was born from my own experience of eating one piece of toast throughout the whole day of my wedding.

Are your grazing table ingredients seasonal?

Yes, many of our ingredients are seasonal. Fresh fruit from local growers is a key component of all of our tables, so we move with the seasons. I was a bit sad when fig season finished up recently, but persimmons are now in season and they are a very worthy substitute.

Who are some of your favourite local producers right now?

Charli G’s Cheese Emporium is our favourite local cheese provider at the moment. The ladies over at Charli G’s are so knowledgeable and are all about great tasting cheese. You can find them in the little ‘cheese caravan’ every Saturday morning at Subi Farmers Market. Bri from Late Night Bake Club is our go-to for all cake-related needs. She is an absolute Cake (and general) Goddess! We are also exploring indigenous ingredients to add our tables, because native foods are so diverse and rich in flavour. Stay tuned! Kasia

Wattle & Crumb was born in 2018 right here in Perth thanks to Kasia Dudney and husband Reece, with toddler Matilda and dog Gemma in tow. Kasia had always enjoyed cooking and creating for friends and family, so when she had the idea for Wattle & Crumb, it was a match made in cheese heaven. Kasia’s inspiration when creating grazing tables comes from the beautiful Australian landscape and a love of vibrant colours.
