One of the reasons I love shopping at Fred Meyer is the fuel savings! I find it really adds up quickly, and I’m always excited to see how big my discount is when I show up at the pump. (If you’re not familiar with the program, read my post from a couple years ago which breaks it down for you.)

For a limited time only, you can earn 4x fuel points on participating gift cards at Fred Meyer! This means you’ll earn 100 fuel points for every $25 on gift cards you spend (as opposed to 25 fuel points). Suppose you end up purchasing $100 in gift cards. This translates into 400 fuel points and a $0.40 per gallon saving at the pump! (Head to the Fred Meyer Fuel Rewards page for more of the nuts and bolts of how it all works.)

So what kind of gift cards can you purchase at Fred Meyer? Well, some of the participating offers include: Bass Pro Shops, Darden, Google Play, JC Penney, Lowes, and Panera. However, note that this promotion includes all third-party gift cards as well as Visa, MasterCard and American Express Cards in $25, $50, and $100 denominations! Check out some of the gift cards I found available at my store a month ago, for a similar promotion:

Here’s the important stuff you need to know:

This offer is good from July 24th – August 6th

This offer is good at the Kroger Co. Family of Stores – in my area, that’d include Fred Meyer and QFC (please note that QFC’s promotional period runs July 27th – August 9th).

This offer applies to third-party gift card purchases or Visa, MasterCard, or American Express cards in $25, $50, and $100 denominations.. In other words, you won’t get the discount if you buy Fred Meyer, QFC, or other Kroger store gift cards.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “neat, but I don’t need to buy any gift cards right now, so I don’t see how this promotion would benefit me.” Let me help you think outside the box a moment! Gift cards don’t have to be used for gifts. Consider:

Buy a Lowe’s gift card to tackle that home improvement project you were planning on doing anyways.

Buy a Panera gift card since you know you’ll be headed there for a work lunch next week.

Buy a Visa gift card for upcoming vacation expenses.

I think gift cards can be used to help keep your budget in check too! And of course, you can always use them as gifts for weddings and birthday parties you might have coming up. What other ideas can you think of?
