During our Christmas holidays we stumbled upon the romantic village of Ainsa. Hidden high in the Pyrenees of Huesca and surrounded by rivers Cinca and Ara, this little gem was one of the main locations of Sobrarbe County.

Durante mis vacaciones navideñas, descubrí el romántico pueblo de Ainsa. Situado en lo alto del Pirineo de Huesca y rodeado por los ríos Cinca y Ara, este pequeña joya fue uno de los principales enclaves del Condado de Sobrarbe.
The walk through its narrow cobble stone streets took us back to the Middle Age, and we were marveled equally by its architecture and natural environment. The village is very small, only has pedestrian streets and the visit only takes few hours.

El paseo por sus calles adoquinadas nos transportó a la época medieval, y nos maravillaron por partes iguales su arquitectura y su entorno natural. El pueblo es muy pequeño, solamente consta de calles peatonales y se recorre en un par de horas.
Ainsa Castle dates from the Eleventh Century and it was transformed due to the works until the Seventeenth Century. His “prelude” is this courtyard that leads to the gate to the Plaza Mayor.

El castillo de Aínsa data del sigo XI y se fue transformado debido a las obras que iba soportando hasta el siglo XVII. Su “antesala” es este patio de armas que lleva al portón hacia la Plaza Mayor.
En la epoca que fuimos, reinaba un ambiente festivo, reforzado por las decoraciones navideñas.
The main square is dominated by the Church of Santa Maria dating from the Twelfth Century. We climbed up to the bell tower to discover breath taking views offered by its heights. And then we stopped by one of the cafes of the square to enjoy the calm atmosphere – free of cars – and have a coffee under the gentle rays of winter sun.

La Plaza Mayor esta presidida por la Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Maria que data del siglo XII. Vale la pena subir la torre hasta el campanario para disfrutar de las maravillosas vistas que ofrecen sus alturas. Y luego parar en alguna de las cafeterias de la plaza para disfrutar de la calma del entorno – libre de coches – y tomar un café bajo los suaves rayos del sol invernal.
We continue our tour strolling down Main Street, where we admired every corner of solid historic buildings converted into hotels and finished our tour back to the Plaza Mayor where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Restaurante Alberto.

Seguimos nuestra visita paseando por la Calle Mayor, donde admiramos cada esquina, los edificios históricos convertidos en hoteles rurales y acabamos de vuelta a la Playa Mayor donde disfrutamos de un magnifico almuerzo en Restaurante Alberto.
