The Eurovision Song Contest has faced several delays and setbacks in the past few months, but things just got worse for the campy music competition now that several of the show’s top organizers have walked out.
A total of 21 employees from the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC have quit, including the event manager and several executive producers, citing “staffing matters” as their reason for leaving, according to GT Magazine.
Eurovision is set to take place in Ukraine this year, following the 2016 victory of Crimean singer Jamala, but now fans of the show are worried that the staff will not be ready for the show’s May 9 premiere.
The European Broadcasting Union thanked the previous staff members for their hard work, but said in a statement that they’ve stressed “the importance of a speedy and efficient implementation of plans already agreed, despite staff changes, and that we stick to the timeline and milestones that have been established and approved by the Reference Group to ensure a successful Contest in May.”
