CEDAR CULTURAL CENTER

Joshua James w/ Neulore

American singer-songwriter Joshua James reached iTunes at #1 with his release of The Sun is Always Brighter in 2007. Opening up for James will be Nashville's Neulore, a songwriting duo consisting of Adam Agin and William T. Cook. Neulore recently signed to Chop Shop Records (distributed by Island Records) on the strength of their single "Shadow of a Man", which was featured on ABC's Grey's Anatomy among many other television/film placements.

Hear the song for yourself on Soundcloud.

The band first came to our attention when we caught up with Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and he said his #1 choice of British band at SXSW 2014 was Glass Animals. See his choice pick: SXSW 2014: Steve Lamacq Interview.

Paul Weller

New wavers rejoice! Former vocalist and guitarist for mod-rockers The Jam and co-founder of Style Council, Paul Weller, is making a very special stop in Minneapolis. He’ll be hitting the fabulous Varsity Theater on September 10th. …

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

VARSITY THEATER

Paul Weller

Speaking of Harvest Records, Paul Weller will be stopping by the Varsity Theater on Wednesday. Tickets are on the more expensive side ($35), but may be worth it meant seeing Weller at a nice, intimate setting.

Weller is out for a rare Midwest tour in support of his latest More Modern Classics, a sort of greatest hits/best of from his previous albums in the last fifteen years as a solo artist... but I suspect the real reason for his Midwest appearances is to make his way to Riot Fest in Chicago on September 13th.

Warming up will be DJ Jake Rudh, spinning some 'modern classic' UK tunes (probably as music videos, based on his last few appearances).

Rare Weller US tour:

09/06/14 Toronto, ON Downsview Park

09/07/14 Cleveland, OH House Of Blues

09/08/14 Detroit, MI St. Andrews Hall

09/10/14 Minneapolis, MN Varsity Theater

The Buzzcocks

"Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" is a classic punk song from The Buzzcocks. The cover version by Fine Young Cannibals is pretty awesome too. ..

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

VARSITY THEATER

The Buzzcocks

Speaking of the Varsity Theater, legendary power punk band The Buzzcocks will be stopping by on Thursday. Although only Pete Shelley is the original band member, I don't think anyone cared or mind, just as long as they play their catchy, catchy hit songs.

Of course, the Bolton, England band will likely showcase a few tracks from their latest, ninth studio album, The Way, which came out in May 2014 on Pledge Music.
The Way is the ninth studio album by Buzzcocks, released in 2014.

Opening up the show are local The Magnolias, a band who formed in 1984 and recently reformed in 2012.
Having them on the opening slot made a lot of sense, as their music are influenced by British bands like The Kinks, The Undertones, and, of course, Buzzcocks.

Buzzcocks tour dates:

09/04/14 Washington, DC Black Cat

09/05/14 Philadelphia, PA Union Transfer

The Replacements

Shaky Knees Music Fest just announced that The Replacements have agreed to play at this year's event. Weird that they will play under Modest Mouse, who is headlining May 10th. ...

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13

MIDWAY STADIUM

The Replacements w/ Lucero + Hold Steady

This is the big night, the return of The Replacements at the Midway Stadium. The show is long sold out, so if you haven't gotten tickets yet, you're out of luck.

Opening up the show are Lucero and The Hold Steady. Both these bands, as we have written in the past, already have massive fan base in Minneapolis. I caught Lucero at their sold out show in 2009, and the band continues to sell out future shows. We caught The Hold Steady recently at the Minnesota Zoo, and noted "The Hold Steady has a very loyal fan base."

The Midway Stadium is an interesting choice for a music venue, clearly the band can play a bigger stadium. This will be the Stadium's final hoorah before it is demolished. The show is presented by Jam Productions, Madison House Presents, and First Avenue

The Replacements will be appearing at these upcoming events:

09/07/14 Boston Calling

09/13/14 Saint Paul, MN Midway Stadium

09/19/14 Queens, NY Forest Hills Stadium

09/27/14 Summer Ends Music Festival

10/05/14 Austin City Limits Music Festival

10/12/14 Austin City Limits Music Festival
