Arlo Needs Glasses

By: Barney Saltzberg

Books make such a great gift.  They're like the gift that keeps on giving throughout the year.  Each time a child picks up a book they have received, they can enjoy the gift all over again.

We really enjoy reading in our home.  So, anytime a book is unwrapped, we all feel a bit giddy!

This year, I have a book that I must share with all of you.  It is Raileigh's absolute favorite new title, and I can assure you that each and every child on your gift list will enjoy it as well.

Arlo Needs Glasses is vibrant, interactive, and a truly entertaining read.  Arlo is a cute little shaggy doggie who finds out that he needs glasses.  He loves to play catch until one day he can't anymore... because he can no longer see the ball!

Throughout the book, children can interact with Arlo as he goes through the process of visiting the eye doctor, trying on glasses, and rediscovering how to be the best ball player in the neighborhood. They read an eye chart, look through a fold-out phoropter (that big machine optometrists use), and try on different pairs of glasses—movie star glasses, superhero glasses, mad scientist glasses.

One out of five school-age children need glasses.  Though Raileigh is fortunately not one of them, she still enjoyed reading Arlo Needs Glasses.  She is familiar with glasses because she has family members who wear them.

We love Arlo's story because it allows you to get involved in the story unlike any book I have seen before.  It makes the book really come to life.  Raileigh's favorite aspect of the book is trying all of the different pairs of glasses on Arlo.  She enjoys trying them on herself as well!  The glasses really are cute and they are durable as well, making them perfect for years and years of reading and play.

Arlo Needs Glasses is a great choice for all the little ones of your gift list-- whether they wear glasses or not.
